A Striking Shadow Special Research tasks and rewards in Pokémon Go
Marshadow is finally available globally in Pokémon Go thanks to the new “A Striking Shadow” Special Research questline added on April 3, 2025. By completing six groups of tasks, trainers can get a bunch of goodies and end with a Marshadow encounter.
Recommended VideosIf you already own Marshadow from the 2024 Go Fest event, you won’t be able to get another one. You will instead be gifted candy to boost your existing one, which kind of sucks, to be honest, if you got a low-stat Marshadow and were hoping to get a better stat one this time for the Battle League.
As Marshadow is considered a Mythical Pokémon, you cannot trade it. So you are stuck with whatever Fighting Ghost-type you get at the end of your journey.

There is currently no way to get a Shiny Marshadow in-game, though it’ll likely be added in the future as part of some event or a part of a future Go Tour like previous Shiny Mythical Pokémon such as Mew, Jirachi, and Celebi, to name a few.
Either way, most of the challenges this time are pretty easy, and in theory, you could finish them all in a day or two, so hopefully, it won’t be long until you add Marshadow to your party and continue your quest to complete your Pokédex.
