Hitman was getting a mobile and next-gen offshoot courtesy of Square Enix Montreal. According to the LinkedIn profile of senior designer Richard Knight, the game has been assassinated.

UPDATE: Because some people have taken this to mean the Hitman series has been cancelled in its entirety, IO's community manager Travis had this to say on Twitter:

@davescook Hey Dave! Seems to be some confusion in your comments about the Hitman series as a whole being cancelled, which isn't the case...

Now you know.

There's also the little matter of this new Hitman project from IO Interactive.

ORIGINAL STORY: Videogamer spotted something was amiss on Knight's LinkedIn CV, which lists his current role as, "Senior Designer - Hitman Project (Next-Gen Consoles/Current Gen/PC) - Cancelled."

He now lists his role as, "Prototyping games in short dev cycles for Tablet devices."

It's also believed that the game would have featured microtransactions and online leaderboards, according to the LinkedIn profile of network engineer Anthony Pressacco. He has stated that the studio is now working on "unannounced Hitman game" for mobile formats.

Rumour had it that Square Enix Montreal's Hitman title was called Hitman: Guns & Souls, according to a trademark filing in Japan. Hit the link to see it.
