Original story: PSN errors started cropping up within the past hour or so and have become quite widespread, according to Down Detector.

Although your results may vary according to region, here in Sydney we've been unable to get a PS4 online or connect to the Sony Entertainment Network web store.

The PSN service status page has not been updated to reflect the problems, and there's been no acknowledgement on the PlayStation Blogs or forums as yet. The Ask PlayStation Twitter account has responded to individual users saying the issue is under investigation.

At time of writing, the PlayStation Australia Twitter is the Sony voice to make a general acknowledgment of the issue.

We are aware that there have been issues reported with PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate.

The issues follow unscheduled downtime outage in early January and an extended outage over the holiday period, for which Sony felt obliged to hand out compensation.
