Riot Games has unveiled Retake LTM, a brand-new game mode arriving in Valorant with Season 2026, Act 4. Unlike traditional matches, Retake skips the early-round setup and drops players directly into a post-plant scenario, creating shorter and more action-packed games.
The mode was revealed before VCT Masters London 2026 Grand Finale. Showmatch players tried this mode alongside Valorant’s new map, Summit. While Summit introduces permanent map-changing walls that can reshape a round, Retake focuses on one thing: recreating the tension of a high-stakes site retake from the very first second.
What Is Retake LTM in Valorant?
Retake is a round-based 3v3 mode in Valorant where the Spike is already planted when the round begins. It is now the mechanic of retake in Valorant. One team plays as the Planters and must defend the Spike, while the other team takes the role of Retakers and attempts to defuse it. The first team to win five rounds wins the match.

The most important part of the Retake LTM is to understand how both sides in this intense Valorant game mode works. At the start of every round, the Spike automatically plants itself at a visible location on the site after a short countdown.
Planters (Attackers)
- Spawn directly on the bomb site
- Defend the planted Spike
- Win by eliminating all Retakers or allowing the Spike to detonate
Retakers (Defenders)
- Spawn outside the site
- Defuse the Spike or eliminate all Planters
- Must quickly break through defensive setups to secure the round
Teams switch sides every round, ensuring both squads get equal opportunities to attack and defend.

Valorant Retake LTM uses a randomized loadout system instead of allowing players to buy weapons. Before each round, players choose two cards:
- One card determines weapons and armor
- One card determines ability charges
Each card offers two randomized choices, allowing players to tailor their loadout based on the situation. Riot also confirmed that loadout quality escalates as the match progresses, meaning later rounds feature stronger weapons and more utility.
What Maps Are Available in Valorant Retake?
Retake does not use the full Valorant maps. Instead, matches take place on individual bomb sites taken from existing maps. Riot says the mode will launch with a curated selection of sites that best fit the format. The available site pool is expected to expand throughout Season 2026 // Act 4.
When Does Valorant Retake LTM Release?
Retake launches on June 24, 2026, alongside Valorant Season 2026 Act 4. The update also introduces the new Summit map, the Blackspyre Collection, and a fresh Battlepass, making it one of Valorant’s largest updates of the year.
