White creatures in Magic: The Gathering brings immense power to the table. As the physical manifestations of order, unity, and purity in Magic, these creatures tend to be the stereotypical ‘hero’ character of the game. Many of the best white creatures include abilities that force your opponent to play around additional costs, can swarm the board with all sorts of little creatures, and control the skies with flying creatures like angels.

With Standard being a fairly fluid format with a rapidly changing meta, there is rarely a single best creature in each color. Some might reign supreme for a while until another creature is released to take the spotlight. While this list may change somewhat frequently, there’s no doubting the power behind these cards.

The current sets available in Standard include Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, Streets of New Capenna, Dominaria United, and The Brothers' War.

10 Loran of the Third Path

While at the bottom of the list, Loran of the Third Path does some heavy lifting for being a relatively low-power creature. When Loran enters the battlefield, you get to pick any artifact or enchantment to blow up.

Between the artifact heavy The Brothers’ War and the enchantment-loaded Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, there will rarely be a time when it doesn’t have a target. Even if Loran doesn’t, you can start drawing cards with her tap ability.

9 Anointed Peacekeeper

Anointed Peacekeeper gives you tons of vital information on your opponent’s next few plays for relatively little mana. At just two generic and one white mana, you get to look at your opponent's hand, noting what possible plays they could make during the next few turns and letting you plan accordingly.

Even better, you get to pick one of those cards to add an additional two mana tax to cast it or activate abilities from it. A fairly funny play is to name a planeswalker, so if they want to activate the loyalty abilities of the planeswalker, they need to pay an additional two mana.

8 Steel Seraph

This artificial angel comes with an alternate casting cost through prototype, losing a bit of its overall strength but giving it the flexibility to put pressure on your opponent earlier in the game. You get to pick your choice of either giving a creature you control flying, vigilance, or lifelink for a turn, depending on your needs.

Steel Seraph automatically comes with flying, so even if it’s your only creature in play, you can at least push some damage through with its solid stats and evasion. Against more aggressive decks, the lifegain is a reliable way to stabilize after taking some early damage, while giving it or another creature vigilance allows you to play aggressively and defensively.

7 Siege Veteran

Showing up primarily in mono-white or blue-white soldier lists, Siege Veteran adds incremental value over time. Every turn, you get to add a +1/+1 counter to any creature, slowly helping to pump your team or to start punching through with a solitary attacker. A solid recommendation is to toss at least one counter on Siege Veteran itself to help it dodge at least some removal, like Cut Down.

Siege Veteran provides more removal protection by creating Soldier tokens when another nontoken Solider dies, helping you to maintain your board presence while fighting through your opponent’s spells.

6 Brutal Cathar

A common mechanic in white cards is exiling, and if there’s one thing Brutal Cathar does well, it’s exiling. When it enters the battlefield or transforms back to its Human side, you get to exile any creature your opponent controls. You can exile as many creatures as you like this way; it only stops when your opponent kills Brutal Cathar.

It can be a pretty big upset if your opponent kills Brutal Cathar when it has several creatures under it. With a few protection spells, however, you can safely exile your opponent's creatures away without worry.

5 Archangel of Wrath

Mardu Midrange decks have evolved to fit the shifting meta. The deck became a little less aggressive and added some powerful fliers like Archangel of Wrath. This Angel is a little bland if cast at just its basic casting cost. In a pinch, though, the lifelink can be helpful to recoup early game life loss.

The real appeal comes from being able to kick Archangel of Wrath for either one red mana, a black mana, or both. Doing so allows you to deal two instances of two damage to any target. You could target a bothersome creature in play or deal a little extra damage to your opponent.

4 Serra Paragon

Another new member to the Mardu Midrange deck, Serra Paragon brings back your dead creatures with a mana value of three or less and lands for another bout in the fray. With creatures like Cemetery Trespasser and Bloodtithe Harvester in Mardu Midrange, you’ll have some very good targets to bring back.

Paired with Fable of the Mirror-Breaker, you’ll be able to safely discard lands and small creatures to dig for your bigger threats.

3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben

An extremely efficient creature, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben is a two-mana 2/1 that comes down early and blocks all your opponent's early plays. What makes Thalia so good is that it taxes all players in the game, forcing them to pay an extra one generic mana to cast their noncreature spells.

While it might not seem significant in the long run, forcing your opponent to wait a turn to cast their spells gives you an extra turn or two to set up the board.

2 Myrel, Shield of Argive

One of the best creatures to come out of The Brothers’ War, Myrel, Shield of Argive comes with a unique special ability. So long as Myrel is in play, your opponent cannot cast spells or activate the abilities of artifacts, creatures, or enchantments during your turn.

With Myrel in play, you never need to worry about instant speed removal or even your opponent crewing a vehicle to block. What's more, Myrel created Soldier tokens when it attacks equal to the number of Soldiers you control, slowly growing your army the more she attacks.

1 Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

A staple in white decks since its release, Adeline, Resplendent Cathar can change the flow of the game if left unanswered. Its power is directly tied to the number of creatures you control, so it is at least a 1/4 when Adeline is in play by itself.

When Adeline attacks, it creates a Human token tapped and attacking, applying tons of pressure to your opponent by allowing you to choose a new target for who the token will attack. Keep Adeline protected, and it can quickly overwhelm your opponent with minimal work.
