There's no denying that Marvel Rivals has eaten Overwatch 2's lunch. Despite saying they're not competing, and that there's enough room for both of them in the industry, there's been a marked migration of players towards the NetEase hero shooter. If you've been following the progress of both games, the reasons are pretty clear.

Overwatch 2 needs a competitor, not an executioner.
Posts By James LucasWhile Marvel Rivals fans are eating well, what with the balanced gameplay, rich content roadmap, and devs that listen to the community, Overwatch fans probably can't help but feel envious – I know I would. In fact one fan had enough and decided to improve Overwatch 2 themselves, by turning it into Marvel Rivals.
If You Can't Beat Them, Become Them
As spotted by Kotaku, one Overwatch 2 player decided to use Overwatch 2's custom game workshop to turn it into NetEase's smash hit. Overwatch fans are probably familiar with Javofo – a creator that uses workshop mode to make fun alterations to the game. Upon numerous requests to turn Overwatch 2 into Marvel Rivals, they decided to give it a go, and did a fairly good job.
The first step was to turn the overall perspective into third-person mode. Instead of doing this manually, they simply borrowed a code someone called mitsiee, who had already done so. After this was the task to turn Overwatch characters into Marvel Rivals characters.
They started with turning Cassidy into Winter Soldier, a.k.a. Bucky. The first step was to change his hit-scan bullets into actual projectiles. After that, they incorporated Bucky's forward dash attack, his projectile that goes through multiple enemies, his grapple, and his diving ultimate as well.
The same steps were followed to turn Kiriko into Luna Snow, Hanzo, fittingly into Hawkeye, Genji into Psylocke, Lúcio into Spider-Man, and Hazard into Venom. Choosing the right characters was key here, as some of the abilities did cross over. However, the icing on the cake was a miniature version of Orisa as Jeff, complete with his ult that sucks in and spits out enemies. Now Overwatch fans can hate the land shark too.
