We recently reported that the viral indie hide-and-seek game Meccha Chameleon—in which you paint your avatar to blend in with their surroundings—had sold over seven million copies in just two weeks. Already, mere days later, it has flown past that milestone to sell a staggering total of ten million copies.

Priced at just $5.99, with incredibly low minimum specs, Steam Workshop support out of the gate, and a hook perfect for streaming, it's no wonder that Meccha Chameleon is one of the biggest hits this year, even outselling Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert. But what's even more impressive is that the game was developed in just two months by two developers, Lemorion_1224 and Haganeiro.

Unlike the hiders, that figure can be seen plainly in the Steam Charts right now, with Meccha Chameleon boasting an all-time peak concurrent player count of 340,535—making it the 44th most-played game in the platform's history. That impressive momentum comfortably places it in the top five most-played Steam games today, dethroning Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight, Path of Exile 2, Rust, Slay the Spire 2, and even EA Sports FC 26.

As for where it ranks among the 2026 juggernauts, it has overtaken Forza Horizon 6 while its all-time peak places it neck-and-neck with Resident Evil Requiem—but it's still lagging behind Subnautica and Slay the Spire 2, which have impressive peaks between 574,000 and 578,000 players. Of course, with the game going viral on TikTok, it's easy to imagine Meccha Chameleon climbing even higher. After all, it sold three million copies in less than a week.

It's a milestone most developers dream of, and Lemorion_1224 is taking it in their stride, humbly writing to fans, "Thank you so much for your support!" Understandably, with the game proving so popular, there are calls from all corners of the internet for the duo to bring Meccha Chameleon to console, but for now, there's no official word on when or even if players can expect future ports. Thankfully, with minimum specs like an Intel Core i5 and a "DirectX 11 or 12 compatible graphics card," you don't need a supercomputer to get in on the action.
