Summary

  • Metal Gear fans have wondered why Snake Eater was the first game to get remade and whether other games might get the Delta treatment.
  • That seems unlikely though, as the remake's production producer said in a recent interview that it'd require a lot more work.
  • The team wants to preserve the legacy of Metal Gear Solid while the original development team is around, but it seems that Metal Gear Solid Delta isn't happening soon.

The developers behind Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have suggested that the first and second Metal Gear Solid games can't get the same treatment as they would need a complete reworking.

Before Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was officially revealed last year, it was rumoured to be in the works for quite some time. While Snake Eater is one of the more popular games in the series and takes place before Solid Snake's missions, many fans wondered why it had been picked as the first game to get remade.

That became a lot clearer when Delta: Snake Eater's first gameplay was shown off, which confirmed that the general workings of the original game are still intact here and that it's much more of a graphical improvement with smaller quality-of-life improvements and features added. That's a lot easier to do with Metal Gear Solid 3, but it did get fans wondering if previous games would get their own Delta re-release.

Metal Gear Solid 1 And 2 Likely Won't Get Delta Remakes

As pointed out by GamesRadar+, Famitsu recently had the chance to speak with two of the lead developers on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, including production producer Noriaki Okamura and creative producer Yuji Korekado. The interview contains a lot of details about the game, but the pair also talked about the possibility of remaking other Metal Gear Solid games in the future.

When asked if any other games in the series could get the Delta treatment next, Okamura (as translated by Google) pointed out that remaking the original Metal Gear Solid or the first two Metal Gear games would be difficult because there are some parts that wouldn't work with how they developed Delta. Okamaura notes that more parts of those games would need to be remade and that it'd be a lot more work than Snake Eater.

Before everyone who was involved in the original is gone, we need to create a path to preserve the Metal Gear series for 10 or 50 years into the future. I think this is something we have to do. - Noriaki Okamura

This leads Okumura to wonder whether the team will be allowed to make the next Metal Gear Solid and how far they'd be able to go with it. The main goal for the team now is to "preserve the Metal Gear series for 10 or 50 years into the future", something that Korekado says will be easier with the games on PC.

From the sounds of it, the original Metal Gear Solid might require too much work to get the same sort of enhancement that Snake Eater has and would require a full remake instead of just an overhaul. That doesn't make it impossible, but it does make it a lot less likely than it previously seemed.
