The 7 Best Bond Storylines In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Who should you build your bonds with in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Posts By  Gary Kay

Just when you reach the end of the game and think you have reached the end of your Archetype journey with the Elite Archetypes, the game throws the Royal Archetypes at you. These are the very pinnacle of each character's default archetype, and some are worth the grind, while others might not be worth your time.

Because of the nature of Royal Archetypes and when they get unlocked in the story, this list will contain story spoilers for the main plot.

7 Royal Thief

Requirements

  • Ninja Rank 20
  • Dragoon Rank 15
  • Maximum Bond with Heismay

Heismay's Royal Archetype is the Royal Thief. This will give you access to very high-level, fun abilities that deal massive dark damage, allow you to steal from the enemies, and even potentially one-shot them.

The main issue with the Royal Thief is that it requires a lot of grinding. You will need to get Ninja rank 20, which is simple enough as it is Heismay's main lineage. But you will also need Dragoon at rank 15, which itself needs Sniper at rank 20 and Magic Knight at rank 20. Magic Knight needs Knight at rank 20 and Mage at rank 10. This requires a lot of time and resource investment, and frankly, it is not worth the effort unless you really enjoy the Thief archetype and want to see the absolute pinnacle of what it can do.

6 Royal Berserker

Requirements

  • Destroyer Rank 20
  • Martial Artist Rank 20
  • Maximum Bond with Basilio

Basilio's Berserker archetype becomes, you guessed it, the Royal Berserker. This is quite a useful archetype, as it allows you to maximize the strengths of what makes the Berserk effective. The worst part about it is how late you'll be able to get it and how long it will take to grind in order to get it.

Can you only have one best friend?

Due to Basilio being the last party member to join you and how quickly events happen at that point, you will have little time to maximize his bond from rank one, level up his entire lineage, and level him up in a whole other lineage as well. It is a shame, but Basilio is simply too far behind for it to feel like a worthwhile goal. However, barring that, the Royal Berserk is a very cool, fun archetype to play around with.

5 Royal Knight

Requirements

  • Paladin Rank 20
  • Dark Knight Rank 20
  • Maximum Bond with Hulkenberg

The Royal Knight is Hulkeberg's Royal Archetype. This archetype is a defensive powerhouse, as is expected of the Lady Knight's lineage. The main issue with this archetype is not that it is bad; it just isn't necessarily better than its predecessors and, therefore, not really worth the grind.

In order to obtain this archetype, you will need to have maxed the Paladin and Dark Knight. Paladin is already a very strong tank, so having to level two elite archetypes to max level just to access it is not really worth doing. Of course, if you do decide to go for this archetype, you will find yourself with a very strong tank for the late game.

4 Royal Warrior

Requirements

  • Samurai Rank 20
  • Warlord Rank 20
  • Maximum Bond with Strohl

The Royal Warrior is Strohl's Royal Archetype. Much like the rest of the Warrior lineage, this archetype excels at attacking multiple enemies at once with physical strikes.

You also gain some great passive abilities and buffing spells, making it a strong melee option that is also able to increase its own effectiveness. These things, combined with just how long you've been able to work on leveling Strohl up and maximizing his bond, are what make it a better option over something like the Royal Berserker.

3 Royal Masked Dancer

Requirements

  • Persona Master Rank 20
  • Trickster Rank 20
  • Maximum Bond with Junah

The Songstress Junah's Royal Archetype is the Royal Masked Dancer. The Masked Dancer is a great archetype, as it allows you to equip different masks that will change your strengths, weaknesses, and abilities. This makes it viable in pretty much any situation without having to completely switch archetypes and level up all of the others for Junah.

To get the Royal Masked Dancer, you will need to max out the Masked Dancer lineage as well as the Trickster, which is also a very solid archetype and good for grinding enemies in dungeons. This makes the grind worth it for multiple reasons besides just getting the Royal Masked Dancer.

2 Royal Summoner

Requirements

  • Devil Summoner Rank 20
  • Soul Hacker Rank 20
  • Maximum Bond with Eupha

Royal Summoner is Eupha's Royal Archetype. The Summoner lineage is one of the best types of archetypes in the game, providing extremely high elemental damage options, so it's no surprise that the Royal version is also one of the best.

With the Royal Summoner, you will be able to summon the most powerful deities to your aid without the need for synthesis skills. In terms of pure elemental damage, you will not find many better options. Plus, being able to summon all the monsters, gods, and demons to your side is incredibly badass and a fun way to demonstrate your power in the late game.

1 Prince

Requirements

  • None! Just get to a certain part of the main story.

The first Royal Archetype you unlock, once you uncover the secret of Will and the Prince, is, well, The Prince archetype. This archetype will give you access to powerful synthesis abilities and ways to assist your party members in their own synthesis skills.

You will also get some strong single-target attacks and light spells, as well as increased damage against human-type enemies. Plus, it feels really rewarding to use this Archetype after all the revelations in the story and preparing for the final confrontation with Louis. Due to its utility for the party and story's significance, the Prince has to be number one.
