Before Metaphor: ReFantazio's multi-tribe heroes and heroines can reach the shores of Virga Island, they come face-to-face with a terrifying deep-sea predator. It's a human; and as we've learned, humans are bad news in this game. Homo Sabara and all its massive tentacles strike the gauntlet runner, and it's up to the party to put an end to its rampage.

Here's our guide on how to beat Homo Sabara. It includes our party setup at the time, as well as the skills we used, the timing of our attacks, and everything Homo Sabara threw at us along the way.

Pre-Battle Prep

Although the story throws you straight into the unexpected encounter with Homo Sabara, you can take all the time you need preparing aboard the Gauntlet Runner before you head to deck to greet your foe.

Now that Junah has recently joined, you'll find that only four characters can be in the active party at once, meaning you have to leave someone behind. But, as the tutorial at the start of the boss fight notes, you can use a turn icon to swap someone out.

Frankly, the only major setup you need for this fight is a character with Medica (or a rough equivalent) and either Recarm or several Revival Balms, just in case they're needed. We tend to go into greater detail with this stuff, but honestly, follow our party setup, and you're fine.

Recommended Party Setup

Character

Archetype

Formation

Strategy

Protagonist

Magic Seeker

Front

We'll be using Kande, inherited from the Mage, as Homo Sabara is weak to Electric. Otherwise, it's Medica duty on the regular, and

making himself available for Strohl's synthesis.

Strohl

Pugilist

Front

If you can't use synthesis, have Strohl use Crushing Fist. Whenever he can use synthesis, use Super Energy Ray for high damage.

Hulkenberg

General

Front

Have Hulkenberg cast Matarukaja to raise the party's Attack power. Thereafter, any multi-target skill, such as Flaming Vanguard, will

suffice for culling the tentacles. You can tap into the Attack Beacon synthesis skill with the protagonist to raise all of the party's

stats, too.

Junah

Masked Dancer

Back

Junah, like the protagonist, should use Kande. Beyond that, you can have her aid Hulkenberg with her

Blusterblast Maneuver synthesis, which deals extreme Fire damage and lowers foes' Hit and Evasion.

Homo Sabara Moveset And Affinities

Homo Sabara Moveset

Slam Strike

Single-target strike damage.

Random Strike

Party-wide strike damage. Adds hits depending on the number of legs

remaining when used.

Ink Spew

Attempts to inflict various status ailments.

Soul Scream

Used when low on HP. Gains four turn icons.

Battle Strategy

In many fights with "adds" - additional, weaker, foes, we'll advise you to skip the proverbial middlemen and go straight for the boss. In Homo Sabara's case, that's almost the case, but not quite. You will want to deal enough damage to wipe out the legs in a few turns.

That's because Random Strike gets a hit multiplier based on the number of legs still active on any given turn. As Slam Strike is not especially dangerous, it's the potential for a high number of blows from Random Strike that makes this fight more problematic.

Even so, don't go overboard (ha) with it. Most of the attacks we'll use against Homo Sabara are single-target, focused on eliminating the creature. You can have Hulkenberg use a multi-target skill when she's finishing casting Matarukaja, which raises the party's stats.

Strohl should use Crushing Fist for medium Strike damage with a modifier that adds damage if he's at high HP. Since the protagonist should cast Medica on a regular basis, Strohl should frequently have that going for him.

But, and this is important, if there are at least two turn icons remaining when Strohl's turn is up, use the synthesis skill Super Energy Ray instead.

With our party's Attack stat elevated, e were dealing nearly 2,000 damage per blow with this thing. This is the ticket to a quick victory.

The protagonist should use the Electric-affinity Kande (or Kandera if you have it), as Homo Sabara is weak to this. It'll do fair damage, but it'll also contribute to the number of turn icons at your disposal - which is precisely why we had Junah doing the exact same thing.

When Homo Sabara is at about a third of its HP, ensure that the next turn you have is spent eliminating it rather than allowing it to dip lower. At critical HP, it uses Soul Scream, which enables it to gain four additional turn icons. It then uses Random Strike en masse.

So long as you avoid that situation, you'll be fine, and Homo Sabara will soon be toast. Even if you happen to fall into that trap, just use Medica and round things off, reviving party members if needed.
