Metaphor: ReFantazio - Sogne The Icebound Boss Battle Guide
In a challenging boss battle that's in many ways as much a fight against Rella as against the legendary beast itself, Metaphor: ReFantazio's Sogne the Icebound puts up fierce resistance and can quickly prove more than a match for the protagonist and his steadfast allies. It's one of Metaphor's biggest difficulty spikes, at least insofar as the main story is concerned.

Posts By Quinton O'ConnorOur guide on how to beat Sogne the Icebound is based on multiple runs, each of which gave us a stronger feel for what makes the fight potentially rough, and how to bypass that roughness outright. Here's how to prove your worthiness to Rella.

Strategy
Protagonist
Magic Seeker
Front
Have him cast Medicall, inherited via the Cleric, whenever needed (which will be often). He should also use Pen Patra, also inherited from the Cleric, to deal with the Frostbite everyone will suffer through. When he has the chance, use Horsedrawn Carriage synthesis skill for heavy Strike damage.
Strohl
Sniper
Back
Use the Mania Bullet synthesis skill for heavy Pierce damage that will also add a one-time weakness to Pierce, Strike, and Slash, which can be taken advantage of with Strke and Slash attacks from others. Strohl can also be on Reset Talisman and Amnesty Talisman duties.
Eupha
Summoner
Back
Start the fight with Summon Gargoyle to get a good hit in on Sogne's weakness. Use Summon Noctiluca to supplement the protagonist's Patra in curing Frostbite while providing a regenerative buff.
Basilio
Berserker
Front
Have Basilio use the synthesis skill Wild Bore, a Pierce-type synthesis skill that will deal extreme damage while lowering Sogne's Attack sharply. Do this after Charge skill on the first occasion to do a great deal more damage on that round.
Bring skills and/or Amnesty Talismans to repeatedly remove Sogne's buffs. Bring Reset Talismans as well - as many as you can find. This will serve to remove your debuffs, which will stack up rapidly.

Battle Strategy
When the fight commences, seize the chance to hit Sogne's Fire weakness with attacks like Summon Gargoyle and anything you've inherited elsewhere - in our case, the protagonist had Infernal Vortex, which makes for a decent pick.
Rella will soon use Quartz Wall, which will make Sogne block a single elemental attack. While it may be tempting to let an elemental attack get blocked in order to use more Fire moves thereafter, there are two issues.
First, it'll deplete your turn icons by two upon block, which may very well give your enemy faster chances to cripple you. Second, Rella will just cast Quartz Wall again, anyway.
You can never target Rella, so there's essentially not a thing you can do about her tenacious Quartz Walls and powerful spells!
There's a two-sided major stat-related issue in this battle. Rella will repeatedly raise Sogne's Attack with Tarunda, and Sogne will lower all four of the party's stats sharply with Roar.
For these, we want either Reset Talismans or (better yet) actual skills to solve your team's stat issues. Dishes like Almighty Stew work great, too. As for Sogne's Attack, Amnesty Talismans or - again, better yet - Attack-lowering skills - will do the trick.
In this case, Rella will waste time; when Sogne's Attack is lowered, there's a high chance she'll use a turn icon to raise it again. Which'll hurt more when Sogne strikes, of course, but you're limiting the number of times Rella will attack with her spells instead.
Otherwise, this battle is all about using robust physical moves at every possible opportunity, while the protagonist and Eupha use strong curative party-wide spells and Pen Patra and/or Summon Noctiluna to resolve the Frostbite that'll repeatedly crop up to haunt you.
The Sniper's Mania Bullet will deal high Pierce damage and make Sogne one-time weak to Pierce/Slash/Strike. Basilio should use Charge to gain a once-per-fight very-high damage bonus on the following round; use Wild Bore afterward, and then consistently thereafter.
Other synthesis skills, such as Horsedrawn Carriage - which the protagonist will be able to tap into - can bolster your offenses. Keep up with this, but don't neglect to spend time healing whenever your party's health is low, and you'll whittle down Sogne gradually until the fight ends.
