If you're interested in taking on a shocking challenge and fighting the Arch Tempered Rey Dau, this guide will cover all the necessary details.
How To Unlock Arch-Tempered Rey Dau
You'll need to unlock the quest A Silent Flash to fight Arch-Tempered Rey Dau. This is the third eight-star difficulty quest after High Rank Zho Shia and Tempered Arkveld. This means you should be prepared for a really difficult fight.
There is no additional requirement to this quest apart from reaching Hunter Rank 50. This means you'll have to finish the main story of the game and complete most of the Main Assignments, apart from High Rank Zho Shia.
Reaching Hunter Rank 50 isn't too hard, and you can go there within a day or two at most. The hard part is getting a build ready that will let you survive Arch-Tempered Rey Dau.
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau Strengths And Weaknesses
Here are the strengths and weaknesses of Arch-Tempered Rey Dau:
Weak Points
- Head (Breakable/Weak Point)
- Wings (Breakable x2)
- Tail (Severable)
Resistant Points
- Neck
- Torso
Element/Ailment Weaknesses
- Ice
- Water
- Dragon
Element/Ailment Resistances
- Thunder
Best Weapon Damage
- Slashing
- Bludgeoning
- Pierce
Ice is the most effective element against Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, and if you're using a melee weapon such as Long Sword or Dual Blades, try to bring this element into the fight. If you don't have any Ice setup yet, then Dragon and Water are also good choices.
When it comes to Raw Damage weapons, Bow is incredibly effective, since you can play from a distance and stay safe from most of the new moves, while dealing a lot of damage.
As for the monster, Rey Dau's face is a weak point, where you can get guaranteed wound damage after it does the powerful Lightning attack. Apart from that, cutting off its tail can be beneficial, since it will make it easier for you to fight from the back, where it cannot slam you.
Breaking the tail with a melee weapon will be difficult, since Arch-Tempered Rey Dau can one-shot you if you get hit by the tail slam. However, if you use a Dragon Piercer Bow, then breaking the tail will be a lot easier.
Best Equipment To Fight Arch-Tempered Rey Dau
Best Recommended Weapons
- Dimensius (Artian Long Sword)
- Griefbringer Urstox (Guardian Doshaguma Bow)
Best Recommended Armor
- Standard Rey Dau Armor
- Zho Shia Armor
- Arkveld Armor
- Gore Magala Armor
When it comes to weapons, Long Sword will be your best choice for an Elemental Setup. You can craft an Artian Long Sword with triple Ice Boost, which will help you massively during the fight. If you don't have an Artian Long Sword, you can also use the Hirabami Long Sword.
As for the Bow, a Dragon Piercer setup with the Griefbringer Urstox is perfect for this fight. All you need to do is get your dodges right, and spam Dragon Piercer on the monster, and it will end up dead in no time.
If you don't have any Ice setup, you can craft the Mizutsune Long Sword, since Water is also pretty good against Arch-Tempered Rey Dau.
Armor is a vital part of preparing for the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, as it's not like other fights where you can ignore Resistances. The standard Rey Dau armor set or the Zho Shia Armor set provides a lot of Thunder Resistance, which will help you survive and prevent Thunderblights.
If you use the combination of Arkveld and Gore Magala sets, which is the meta for the highest damage output, you'll need to slot in a few Thunder Res Jewels for added protection. The Arkveld and Gore Magala combined set has negative Thunder Resistance, and that is a dangerous gamble to bring in this fight.
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau - Fight Breakdown And Moves
The Arch-Tempered Rey Dau fight has all the moves of the original, but there are a few changes that you must be aware of. The first major change you will notice is that every move by Rey Dau now leaves a trail of Lightning in its path.
This means, even if you dodge the first move, you can still get hit by the trail, so it's important to adjust yourself to the timing of the moves.
Gunlance and Sword n Shield players must be careful, as they should keep blocking even after the first hit goes through. You don't want to get caught by the Lightning Trail since it deals a lot of damage.
The two powerful moves that are signature to Rey Dau, namely the Lightning beam that it shoots either from the air or when on the ground, are still there.

They also have a much larger Area of Effect, so you must start running when you see Rey Dau charging its Lightning beam.
There's a second new move, where Rey Dau will fly in the air and shoot a Lightning Charge underneath its body vertically. This move comes out very fast, and it will catch those players off guard who try to spam attacks from below the monster's body. This move will also one-shot you if it hits you directly.
Finally, the move where Rey Dau would fly high up in the air and slam its wings has also been altered a bit. The slam is now even more delayed than before, and it will one-shot you if it hits. As such, it's important to learn the timing of this one as well.
Flash pods are extremely effective against Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, as you can interrupt most aerial moves. The monster also has increased resistance to wounds, so you will produce fewer of those, which means much less downtime than normal Rey Dau.
You can also capture Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, so bring a few traps with Tranq Bombs, if you want to end the fight quicker.
