Monster Hunter has always been marketed as a hardcore experience; each entry possesses a rather violent gameplay loop, with players killing giant creatures, stripping their bodies for parts, and queueing up to grind for even more materials. Despite this, the series has always sprinkled goofier elements into the equation to allow for some levity.

Monster Hunter Wilds adds Barrel Bowling in Title Update 1, letting you test your lane skills with a cumbersome (and explosive) twist. Here's everything you'll need to start bowling like a pro.
Where To Find Barrel Bowling
Barrel Bowling is exclusive to the Grand Hub area, introduced in Title Update 1. After entering the location, Rolie and his bowling station can be found on the far right side of the map.
You'll unlock the ability to fast-travel directly to the minigame after visiting it for the first time.
Barrel Bowling, Explained
Barrel Bowling works very similarly to its real-life counterpart. You get two chances to toss a barrel down the lane, knocking over as many pins as you can.
While traditional bowling only has nine pins, Monster Hunter's barrel variant has upwards of 60. There are three different-sized pins, each with designated point values (2 for the smallest, 20 for a medium, and the largest gets you 200). Your barrel also explodes at the end of your throw, potentially netting you an even larger score.
Barrel Bowling will earn you various consumables, but there are a few extra rewards you should look out for. The first time you play, you'll be given the Barrel Bowling Strap pendant. Finishing with an A rank (stacking over 500 points) gets you the Barrel Bowling Trophy pendant.
To participate in the minigame, you'll need to use a Barrel Bowling voucher. These can be acquired through log-in bonuses, trades with villagers, and through the Support Ship.
Although you need to have a voucher to earn rewards, you're still able to bowl for fun. Practice your shots to develop strategies when you play for real.
Barrel Bowling Tips
There is only one pin worth 200 points, so knocking it over should be your first priority. After you've done that, you can try to knock down as many more as you can.
At the edge of the bowling area, you'll find small orange arrows that help you line up your shots. Take your first roll from the arrow second to the left and aim straight at the gap between the two far rocks. This should take out most of the pins on the lane's left side and blow up the largest pin if you get a favorable bounce.
If you don't hit the 200-point pin, fear not; you'll get another opportunity with the next roll.
Your second shot will be a bit more straightforward. Grab a barrel, and this time, position yourself on the arrow second to the right. From here, aim directly at the 200-point pin (or where it used to be if you've already claimed it) and fling the barrel down the hill. You'll clean up the vast majority of pins on the right side and hit the largest if you haven't already.
