The Rest Of 2026 Is Packed With Huge Releases, And We Can't Wait To Play Them
We're halfway through 2026 and the rest of the year is still looking absolutely packed with games. I suppose this is mostly down to the seismic release of Grand Theft Auto 6 throwing a huge spanner into everyone else's' launch plans, but it does mean that we're getting a particularly top-heavy late summer, and probably a pretty packed start to 2027.
There are loads of interesting titles releasing in the next few months, from a new Gears of War, a revamped Call of Duty, Insomniac's Wolverine, and a few more to boot.
10 Halo: Campaign Evolved
Xbox28 July 2026
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a brand-new, modernized version of the original Halo: Combat Evolved built in Unreal Engine 5. Early glimpses of this have shown a lot of promise, and it reimagines this classic for a new generation.
But this isn't just an aesthetic overhaul, there are new weapons, new Skull modifiers (like the ability to play the entire game to be played in third-person, and three entirely new missions. It's old Halo in a new frame.
9 Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Arc System Works6 August 2026
From the creators of Guilty Gear comes a brand-new Marvel fighting game. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls looks like nothing else in the Marvel universe, with an aesthetic that reimagines a familiar cast of characters in slick new designs and visuals.
Arc System Works has managed to inspire a whole new collection of Marvel fans thanks to inclusion of some franchise favourites, like Green Goblin and Carnage - which we got a glimpse of in its most recent trailer.

Posts By James Lucas8 Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
27 August 2026
I played a couple of hours of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy just a few weeks ago and I can tell you that this is most definitely a spin-off from the main series of games, with a larger focus on combat than its predecessors. You can read more about my experience with the game here, but for clarity's sake, my verdict was that this Resonance is basically an action film version of the mainline games.
Expect a faster pace, more bombastic set pieces, and a whole litany of bizarre mythology.
7 Control Resonant
24 September 2026
My colleague Jade King got to sit down with a preview build for Control Resonant just recently. She noted that fans might have been wary about the direction the sequel to Remedy Entertainment's foundational Control might have gone, but that we can all rest assured that it turns out the studio knows exactly what it's doing.
"It might be changing combat style entirely as it shifts to melee-focused character action, but the intrigue that drips from each environment and every single line of dialogue remains," Jade writes in her full preview, which you can read here.
6 The Blood Of Dawnwalker
2 September 2026
The more I read about The Blood Of Dawnwalker, the more curious I get. This is essentially The Witcher 4 but with vampires. Set in dark 14th-century Europe, it looks gritty and miserable, like all good video games. Rebel Wolves' debut title has all the makings to become a classic RPG, but with so little to go on, we can only speculate on how good this is actually going to turn out.
I am absolutely hooked on its aesthetic, writing, and concept, so count me down (ha ha ha) for its release later this year. Another potentially excellent title that has been crammed into one of the busiest Septembers I can recall.
Honorable mentions:
Rayman Legends Retold, Valheim 1.0 Release, Fields Of Mistria, Grave Seasons, Star Wars: Galactic Racer
5 Phantom Blade Zero
28 October 2026
Alongside its flashy new teaser from PlayStation, Phantom Blade Zero is quietly picking up Steam for those who like action role-playing games. Our own Sam Woods played this way back in 2025, and although S-Games' title might have originally come across as a souls-like, he compared it favorably to games like Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry in his preview.
It has the potential to be another wuxia hit, such as Where Winds Meet and Black Myth: Wukong.
4 Gears Of War: E-Day
Xbox6 October 2026
I keep forgetting Gears of War: E-Day is coming out this year and that's only because this year is so stacked, but this is also one that I'm probably the most quietly excited about. I have a lot of fond memories of playing Gears of War as a teen and while I haven't visited the universe in quite a while, what better place to make a return than to the game that bills itself as the "brutal origin story of one of gaming's most acclaimed third-person shooter franchises." Gold star and a lollipop to whoever wrote that bit of PR because I'm all-in.
I really, really hope that the game leans into the utter brutality of the so-called 'Emergence Day', the day that the horrifying Locust emerge from the ground and start wreaking havoc on Sera, and from the trailers we've seen so far, it does appear to capture that 'day one' vibe that is always so thrilling.
3 Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
23 October 2026
I think I say this almost every year, but maybe Call of Duty is back? Following the roaring success of Battlefield 6, it appears that Activision is trying to take a lot of pages from the textbook, including (apparently) scrapping wacky skins. No more Nicki Minaj parachuting on your head.

Sometimes you just need to take big leaps forward, with graphic modernisation and gameplay quality of life, to keep the audience satisfied. We think it looks great, but as always, Call of Duty has to do so much to win back our trust.
2 Marvel's Wolverine
15 September 2026
I've spent a lot of time in the past few days writing about Marvel's Wolverine (mostly analysing the absolutely stacked September release window, mind), and although I am in no way a Marvel fan, I've started to come swinging around. Wolverine might actually end up being the game I play on my new PS5 before I dive into GTA6.
My only hope is that Insomniac's writing can match the supposedly grittier world of Logan, and hopefully its billing as "brutal" and "violent" lives up to my expectations. Some moments in the trailer are absolutely brutal, to be fair, as Wolverine leaps from a building and drives his claws into the face of a random grunt. Marvel's Wolverine is one to watch, of course.
1 Grand Theft Auto 6
19 November 2026
Ah, Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally here. With pre-orders going live very soon, the release date has now been completely, 100 percent confirmed. Surely? I feel for the developers. How do you ever say goodbye to a project like this? Something that has taken many years to develop at an astronomical cost, widely considered to be the most expensive single piece of media ever created?
I have no clue. It will never be finished, but eventually you just have to let go and let the players do the rest. After a long wait and months of hype, we will finally be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year.
