N Plus Infinity Times Two Is Giving The Series The Friendship-Ruining Multiplayer Game It Deserves
Metanet Software, the developers of the iconic N games, have announced N Plus Infinity Times Two, a new multiplayer-focused entry in the series that's set to release in 2027.
If, like me, you were lucky enough to grow up during the golden age of Xbox Live Arcade, then you're no doubt familiar with the N series, which started life as a Flash game but really made a name for itself with N+. After the 2008 masocore platformer became a XBLA classic, we ended up getting a sequel in 2015, N++, that shined the series' formula even further.
Now that it's been a whole decade since the last proper N game (which actually just got a tenth anniversary update not too long ago), everyone's been wondering what developer Metanet Software was going to do next. While it's unsurprisingly sticking with N, the next game in the series is going in a very different, but very exciting multiplayer direction.
The Next N Game Is N Plus Infinity Times Two, And It's Going All-In On Multiplayer
Don't Worry, There Are Co-Op Modes If You Want To Keep At Least One Of Your Friendships Alive
During today's Day of the Devs showcase, Metanet Software officially announced its next game, N Plus Infinity Times Two, which is the first truly multiplayer-focused game in the series, and one that's aiming to launch in 2027. Previous N games have had multiplayer components that made good use of its precision platforming, but Infinity Times Two is going all in on it for the first time.

As the name implies, races in that mode end with the player being able to shoot a rocket launcher at whoever's unlucky enough to be behind them.
There are also two new game modes planned for Infinity, including One-Up, where players have to outperform each other in elimination contests, and Team Tag, where Ninjas need to outrun and outjump Hunters to see who can survive the longest. And, of course, all of this is wrapped up in N's signature style and banging soundtrack. It'd be a crime if that wasn't the case.
I was able to attend a hands-off preview of Infinity before its official reveal, and it's shaping up very nicely indeed. Even as a mostly single-player when it comes to N, multiplayer does make perfect sense for the series, especially if it's given time and attention. I'm especially excited for Team Tag, since it seems like the best use of N's perfectly infuriating gameplay, and a surefire way to ruin some friendships.
You might notice that N Plus Infinity Times Two has a bit of a different naming convention with its lack of symbols, and that's a very purposeful choice. Metanet told us that finding N+ and N++ on digital stores was a little too difficult, so having some actual words in the title makes it a bit easier.
