With each passing second, minute, hour and day, we're closer and closer to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. The vibes are strong, and the hype is as high as it's ever been.

Man, I Kind Of Wish I Pre-Ordered The Switch 2 In Person

I got my Switch 2 pre-order while refreshing pages for Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, but now I wish I hadn't.

In the leadup to the Switch 2's launch, Nintendo has been keeping the hype train rolling by revealing various features and other bits and bobs via its Nintendo Today app. For instance, the Switch 2 will have a feature that will slow down how quickly your battery deteriorates. Elsewhere, you'll finally be able to lock your console with a four-digit pin.

That said, the most recent feature reveal is less exciting, and arguably, a bit disappointing, depending on who you ask.

Even The Steam Deck Lets You Capture Longer Game Footage

As first spotted by a user on Bluesky, capturing gameplay videos on the Switch 2 via the Capture button will remain as the past 30 seconds, just like how it is on the original Nintendo Switch.

At the moment, it's unclear if the resolution and quality will be improved on the Switch 2, which would likely soften the blow of only being able to record a limited amount of gameplay.

For reference, on the PlayStation 5, users can record up to one hour of gameplay. Meanwhile, on the Xbox Series line of consoles, gamers can record 10 minutes on internal storage and one hour on external storage. Nintendo's own handheld competitor, the Steam Deck, can record for up to two hours.

"It's not a dealbreaker for anyone, I don't think, but it's a weird limit to set in 2025," one user wrote on Reddit. "What if I want to record a full race or match in a game that doesn't have a replay feature? (I know) it's not an issue that everyone will face but still, the option for (longer recordings is always appreciated."

That comment basically sums up the situation perfectly. It'd be nice to record longer gameplay clips, but it won't stop anyone, including this writer, from buying a Switch 2 at launch. Alas, maybe the Switch 3 will have that feature.
