PostsAfter the prison prologue, 'Find The Heir' is the second main story quest that you'll complete on your journey in Cyrodiil. Find The Heir will see you travel to the far corners of the map and even into another dimension in the aim of finding the next in line to the throne of Tamriel. Here's how to find the heir and complete this main story quest!
How To Start Find The Heir
You'll start the Find The Heir quest immediately after completing the previous main story quest 'Deliver The Amulet'. After you've finished speaking with Jauffre regarding the Amulet of Kings, it's revealed that the late Emperor Uriel Septim VII had an illegitimate son, Martin, who is currently living in Kvatch. As the only living heir to the throne, you're tasked with safely recovering him.
The journey from Weynon Priory to Kvatch is a long one, but thankfully, not a difficult one. Stick to the main road and follow the signs to Kvatch. You will encounter a few enemies along the way, but rarely anything tougher than wolves and rats. The Gold Road takes you through Skingrad, which is worth checking out on the way to trade and rest.
Arriving In Kvatch
When you climb the mountain up to Kvatch, it rapidly becomes clear that all is not well in this town. Speak to Savlian Matius and you'll discover that a portal to Oblivion has opened and enemies have been pouring through it. The soldiers are struggling to hold them off and, despite sending some of their own through the gate, none have returned yet or been able to close the portal.
You'll need to go through the gate to save them and close the portal to Oblivion, which is required to complete 'Find The Heir'. You cannot speak with Brother Martin before this. This is the 'Breaking The Siege of Kvatch' quest, and once you've completed that, by closing the portal, you'll be able to enter Kvatch. Follow Savlian into the church, and you'll find Brother Martin towards the right side of the building.
At this point, you can choose to speak with Savlian Matius and start the side quest 'The Battle For Castle Kvatch', as this will automatically unlock upon completing 'Breaking the Siege of Kvatch'.
Brother Martin and other NPCs can walk out of the church after you've completed 'Breaking The Siege of Kvatch'. If they do this, be sure to stop them by talking to Martin, as they can get caught in a glitch in the landscape further down the mountain, which will make it impossible to complete this quest.
Speak with Martin and explain the situation. He's sceptical at first, but he does believe you when you tell him that his real father is the former Emperor. He'll eventually agree to come with you to Weynon Priory, which you can either walk to or fast travel. It's a lot easier to fast travel, especially since you could run into trouble if you walk back.
Returning To Weynon Priory
Upon returning to Weynon Priory, you'll soon discover that it's under attack, and you'll need to locate both Jauffre and The Amulet of Kings. Eronor doesn't know where they are, but Brother Piner said he saw Jauffre in the chapel. Head in there after defeating the enemies, and you'll find Jauffre. Dispose of the enemies and head back to Weynon House to try and find the Amulet.
Be very careful in the chapel, as due to the close proximity of your allies and enemies in this area, it's very easy to accidentally kill an ally. If this happens to you, reload your most recent autosave and try again. It's also very easy for Brother Piner to die in this battle, although he's not a big loss, as this doesn't affect any other quests going forward.
After entering Weynon House, you'll discover that the amulet has been stolen, but you do have Brother Martin, which is a big cause for optimism. While nowhere is truly safe for Martin, Jauffre recommends heading to the Cloud Ruler Temple, the hidden Blades fortress near Bruma. The Blades are, of course, the Emperor's Guard in Tamriel, and they'll be required to Protect the new heir to the throne. This begins the next main story quest, 'Weynon Priory'.
