Oblivion Remastered: A Mage's Staff Quest Walkthrough

Being a mage in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered requires more than just knowing some spells. Every great witch or wizard is in need of a staff. Not a stick you find on the ground, not a carpenter's backstock but a carefully crafted tool of magical make and origin.

As one might guess, getting your hands on such an illustrious thing is no walk in the grove. The secrets of staff-crafting are known to only a select few. To find these special individuals and craft your own staff, we've provided the optimal path for ensuring your success and strength.

How To Start The Mages' Staff Quest

To start, you must have joined the Arcane University by completing all of the Mages' Guild recommendation quests.

After becoming an Apprentice, speak with Raminus Polus and ask him about Tasks you can complete to further your position at the Arcane University. He'll tell you about needing to have a Mage's Staff. Ask him more about it to accept and advance the quest.

Investigating Wellspring Cave

Your destination is Wellspring Cave. It is located on the east side of the Imperial City near the waterfront.

Once inside, you'll have your hands full with a fight. Defeat the Necromancer in the entry cavern and interact with Zahrasha's corpse.

Continue through the cave, but beware of the other necromancers deeper in.

The enemies in these tunnels have the ability to conjure backup and silence you. Make sure you have a good melee weapon with you in case you cannot cast spells.

There is a watery divide in the middle of the cave. There are no treasures here, but any necromancers that fall into the water will not drown and will return to their previous positions when reloading the area.

Following the main path, you should find a door to the Wellspring Grove at the northmost edge of the cave.

Once you exit the cave, you will be met with three more necromancers. The leader of them, Noveni Othran, will run up to speak with you.

There's nothing you can do to talk your way out. They will all attack you regardless, so attack back and defeat them all.

Before leaving this area to give your report to Raminus Polus at the Arcane University, you should:

1. Interact with Eletta's corpse.
2. Loot the Stone Chest for the Unfinished Staff in the center of the grove.

How To Create Your Mage's Staff

After returning to Raminus Polus, inform him of what you found at the Wellspring Cave.

When you've given him all your information, press him about the staff to get the goal of creating your staff with Delmar in the Chironasium.

Visit Delmar and ask him about making your Mage's Staff. You'll have three primary options:

Destruction

Fire, Shock, or Frost damage.

Illusion

Charm, Paralyze, or Silence.

Mysticism

Soul Trap, Telekinesis, or Dispel.

After choosing your staff, you will have to wait until the calendar day has elapsed.

Speak with Delmar after waiting until the next day to claim your next staff, which should be available to pick up in the dresser to the left of the far enchantment altar.

Though this is the completion of your quest, you can claim your Advancement and your next task from Raminus Polus when you're ready.

If you need to recharge your staff, remember the Chironasium. The woman who works here can recharge it for you, if you don't know where else to look.
