No one likes a thief - they take what doesn’t belong to them without a second thought, showing no regard for the feelings of the owner or the potential consequences of their actions. This is exactly the case with Earil in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, who has had enough of a particular thief causing him trouble for some time.

He calls on you to investigate the matter, but as you dig deeper, you quickly realize there’s more to this thief than meets the eye. What seems like a simple theft quickly turns into a much more complicated situation, where you need to make quite the decision.

This quest is part of the Shivering Isles DLC.

How To Start The Brithaur Quest

Rumor in Crucible has it that Earil is having some personal problems with a character named Brithaur, and that piques your interest.

So, in order to trigger this quest, you can basically get this quest from any character when you talk to them about rumors, or you might even overhear it while roaming the town.

Alternatively, you can go to Earil at his shop, known as Earil's Mysteries, directly north of the town, and speak to him about Brithaur.

You will learn that Brithaur is a bad thief who always gets caught, causing trouble not only for Earil but for the whole town as well.

How To Find Brithaur

Your task now is to find Brithaur, and he can be located roaming around town, at his house, or stealing from some shop. The quest marker should point you in his direction.

When you talk to him, you will learn that he is just a 'collector' and that his collection is almost complete, with only flawless pearls missing to stop his 'collecting.'

This is where you need to make a decision on how to complete the quest.

How To Complete The Brithaur Quest

Kill Brithaur

The easiest and quickest way to complete the quest is simply by killing Brithaur. However, be sure to do this out of sight of guards so you won't get into trouble.

The safest way to do so is probably during the night when you can catch him at his house sleeping. Afterward, make sure to loot his body for his heart to bring as proof to Earil.

He will be happy that he no longer needs to worry about this thief and will reward you with more gold than normal.

Help Brithaur

If you decide to help the 'collector,' you will need to get your hands on flawless pearls, but the downside is that this is a random drop. There are a couple of ways to acquire this item, though it might require some time.

The first option is if you're high level, which you should be if you're doing the DLC, is farming it from enemies called Baliwogs that can be found around water areas in the southern part of the map.

Alternatively, you could try completing dungeons and caves and looting chests for a chance to get your hands on it, but it would still be random and might take you longer than necessary.

If you're really really really struggling to get this item, as it can be a grind, you can type this console command: player.additem 38b9a 5.

After you get the pearls, make your way back to Brithaur and give them to him. He will promise that he won’t steal anymore now that his collection is complete.

Now, simply head back to Earil and inform him about this. You'll be rewarded with less gold than if you had killed Brithaur, but it will still make him happy that he won’t have to deal with him anymore, and the quest will be complete.
