Gear in general is very crucial during your time playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered as it provides you with a good option for both attack and defense. Having the best weapons and armor is essential to give you the upper hand when dealing with enemies, and trust me, you will be doing a lot of that.

With so many items to find, you might be wondering which are worth obtaining and which are not. What you may not know is that many of these are leveled-based, meaning you acquire them based on your level. Among the good gear you can obtain in the game is the Madness gear, but first, you need to get your hands on some Madness Ore.

How To Find Madness Ore

Madness Ore is a DLC-exclusive item that can only be obtained in the Shivering Isles DLC, which means that you first need to access this DLC by completing the quest 'A Door in Niben Bay.'

After completing this quest and gaining access to the Shivering Isles, there are two major ways in which you can get your hands on this item.

The first method requires some farming, specifically by defeating Grummite enemies.

These creatures resemble orcs in the game and can usually be found inside caves and dungeons or sometimes roaming around.

The best places to find multiple Grummites are these caves/ruins:

  • Aichan
  • Blackroot Lair
  • Corpserot Passage
  • Fetid Grove
  • Knotty Bramble
  • Xeddefen
  • Xedilian

The second method requires you to enter certain caves and find one of the Madness Ore Deposits inside.

Much like Amber, you need to know where to look, and there are specific locations where you can find these deposits:

  • Aichan
  • Cann
  • Knifepoint Hollow
  • Knotbone Chamber
  • Rotten Den
  • Xaselm
  • Xavara
  • Xeddefen
  • Xiditte
  • Xirethard

As you can see, certain caves, like Aichan, will have both Grummite enemies and Madness Ore Deposits, so you can increase your chances of obtaining more Madness Ore.

In addition to that, here is a map location that shows every cave and fort location on the map

What To Do With Madness Ore?

You might be wondering why you will need Madness Ore, and well, you can use it to craft new weapons and armor at Cutter's Weapons shop, located just northwest of Crucible town.

When you speak with Cutter, you will have the option to pick what item you need to forge using the Madness Ore, and there is a list of these items that you can craft, all detailed in the table below, along with how much you need.
