There are hundreds of spells from every school of magic to choose from while you're mastering your magical abilities in Oblivion Remastered. While the most powerful Destruction spells are usually the best options for combat situations, Illusion offers you the opportunity to enhance your combat experience or avoid fighting entirely.

Posts By Andrew ScariatiIllusion magic is the perfect middle ground that provides a plethora of helpful spells for a variety of characters, whether you're a mage, thief, or warrior. Even though it can be exceptionally difficult to gain access to the best Illusion spells unless you grind up to Expert level, these options are as accessible as they are potent.
8 Enthralling Presence
- Charm 24 points in 20 feet for 20 seconds.
Enthralling Presence is an excellent quality of life option if you've grown exhausted with the persuasion minigame and just want to extract some key information. The Charm effect effectively increases the disposition of the target for the designated amount of time, making them more likely to share information with you.
24 points in a given NPC's disposition is usually enough to surpass most information thresholds, which are typically around 70. Unless you have a horrible Personality value, most NPCs should be neutral enough to start so that this spell can carry you through without persuasion.
7 Heroic Touch
- Rally 50 points for 60 seconds on touch.
Rally is an interesting effect, as it increases the target's hidden confidence value, which essentially governs how aggressively the NPC will attack enemies. While this effect is typically only useful for augmenting your summons or companions, it can be used on enemies to keep them from running away.
While it's rare that NPCs will flee, this spell can save you from getting in trouble with the law, as it stops NPCs from running to call the guards and instead makes them face you head-on.
6 Grasp Of Terror
- Demoralize up to level 20 for 30 seconds on touch.
On the other end of the spectrum is the Demoralize effect, which decreasesthe target's hidden confidence value, thus making them more likely to run away from you. While you generally prefer to eliminate enemies as quickly as possible, sometimes you need some space to heal.

Posts By Andrew ScariatiDemoralize is exceptionally helpful for buying yourself a few precious moments if you're struggling to defend against a particularly tough opponent. Similarly, Demoralize is helpful if you're a ranged character who would rather fire arrows and spells from a distance.
5 Mute
- Silence on target at 15 feet for 15 seconds.
Silence is the bane of mages everywhere, as this effect completely prevents the target from casting any spells for the allotted time. Conjurers and Necromancer enemies typically rely on their spells to deal damage, otherwise, they're of little threat to you, thus making Silence a hard counter to their attacking power.
While this spell is limited to magic users, there are several instances where having 15 seconds without spells sizzling by you will be key to survival. Furthermore, this spell's area of effect offers excellent coverage for groups of enemies.
4 Shadow Shape
- Invisibility for 30 seconds on self.
The Invisibility effect does exactly what it says, making you completely undetectable, especially with high enough sneak skill. However, the invisibility effect is limited and will disengage if you interact with any objects around you, completely exposing you to detection.
While that massive disadvantage can limit Shadow Shape's effectiveness in certain situations, it's incredibly helpful if your only goal is to sneak by an enemy or group, especially in an open area without doors to tempt you.
3 Debilitate
- Paralyze for three seconds on touch.
Paralyze is one of the strongest illusion magic effects in Oblivion Remastered, as it renders your target unable to move for the duration. Paralyzed foes become completely rigid and fall to the ground, and must regain their footing again before they can attack or react in any way.

Posts By Andrew ScariatiWhile three seconds doesn't sound like much time, this gives you a massive opening to take advantage of, and you'll likely defeat your target within that window before they can even stand up.
2 Shadow
- Chameleon 50 percent for 30 seconds on self.
Shadow is superior to Shadow Shape, as it allows you to perform sneaky tasks, like picking locks, without completely losing your shrouded aura. Chameleon allows you to interact and attack without losing your partial invisibility, as the percentage determines roughly how easy it is to see you.
However, achieving 100 percent Chameleon is much more beneficial than invisibility, given your freedom to attack, but also due to how it affects NPCs. 100 percent Chameleon will break the AI, make you impossible to see, and give you free rein to steal whatever you'd like.
1 Black Winter
- Frost damage 20 points on target.
- Paralyze for two seconds on target.
Black Winter is easily the most impressive Illusion spell, as it technically breaks out of the limits and combines damage and paralysis into one elite spell. This spell is impressively strong, offering a similar effect to Debilitate while adding damage to the equation.
While this spell is a hybrid between Destruction and Illusion, it earns its place as the best Illusion spell in Oblivion Remastered primarily due to the Paralyze effect. As previously said, Paralyze is usually enough to turn the tide of battle in your favor, but the added frost damage cements Black Winter as the most versatile Illusion spell available.
