New Oblivion Remastered Players Are Discovering You Can Get A Stat Boost For Doing Absolutely Nothing
Summary
- New Oblivion players are discovering you can raise skills by watching Blades practice.
- Unfortunately, the skill boost isn't applicable if levels are over 90.
- You can also boost stats by watching NPCs spar in hand-to-hand combat.
Despite being almost 20 years old, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a game rich in secrets. There are hidden pieces of environmental storytelling, unique hacks to perform otherwise mundane tasks, and mysterious characters scattered throughout the world.
While veterans of the game may be familiar with these, given that it's been out so long, the Oblivion Remaster has introduced a whole new audience to the world of Cyrodiil and its many quirks.

Posts 23Over the last few days, fans have begun to stumble across another one of the game's little secrets, finding that you can get a stat boost for standing around doing absolutely nothing.
Oblivion Remastered Will Boost Your Stats If You Stand Still In The Right Spot
The new/old discovery was recently shared on the Oblivion subreddit by user Psycho-FanSenpai, and it involves watching two dudes going at it with each other. If you hang around watching them for long enough, a prompt will pop up on screen saying, "By observing these Blades at practice, you've picked up a couple of new moves! Your Blade and Block skills have both been raised by two points." Not bad for doing nothing.
The duo can be found at Cloud Ruler Temple after progressing through Oblivion Remastered's main story. However, there is a caveat. If your skills are over 90, you won't receive the free boost, so it's worth doing before you reach those heights.
Strixnebulosa5 added that you can also do the same with the two NPCs who are sparring in hand-to-hand combat outside the Arena.
The post was greeted with a mixture of surprise and gratitude from the Oblivion fan base. Soggycatfish said, "Hundreds of hours in the original, hundreds in the remaster, never knew about this. Cheers," and xphantomflamesx shared a similar sentiment, saying, "Wow, I never knew that, thanks. I have played Oblivion for so long, I didn't realize that."
It's another handy tip for players who are just dipping their toes into the game for the first time, and it's likely one of many that they're likely to stumble upon in their grand adventure.
