Oblivion Remastered: Umaril The Unfeathered Quest Walkthrough
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has no shortage of difficult bosses, but there's something especially daunting about fighting the scourge of Pelinal Whitestrake: the daedric-touched, Ayleid King, Umaril the Unfeathered. To defeat him, you will have to best him in combat not once but twice.

PostsGathering up all your relics and your strength, every preparation will be required if you are to best this beast of a boss. Thankfully, you are not alone in this crusade. With the aid of your followers, the prophet, and the humble writer of this guide, you will have everything you need to turn this unfeathered bird man into an Ayleid roast.
How To Receive The Blessing Of Talos
Before you can start the Umaril the Unfeathered quest, you must have gathered all eight artifacts of Pelinal Whitestrake:
- Cuirass
- Sword
- Shield
- Mace
- Greaves
- Boots
- Gauntlets
- Helm
After successfully retrieving the sword and reconsecrating it in the Chapel of Arkay in Cheydinhal, return to the Priory of the Nine.
If you find yourself completely lost in Underpall Keep during the Sword of the Crusader quest, as we did, you might have missed the entrance to the Underpall Reflecting Chamber.
To reach that entrance, you must enter the keep inside the cave and then, upon entering the large room, look to your left. The entrance to the chamber is on the same wall you entered from and around the corner.
Sir Thedret will tell you that the Prophet has come if you have completed all the above prerequisites. Enter the chapel beside the priory to see Thedret was telling the truth.
Speak with the Prophet and exhaust his dialogue until he gives you the Blessing of Talos. This blessing will remove the Curse of Stendarr that plagued you after retrieving the gauntlets.
At this time, you can speak with two individuals sitting in the pews of the church: Geimund and Brellin. You can recruit them (and Geimund's entourage) now to the Knights of the Nine.
How To Find Umaril The Unfeathered And Clear Garlas Malatar
After receiving the blessing, travel to Garlas Malatar, west of Anvil and on the beachside of the Abecean Sea. Garlas Malatar is an Ayleid ruin. Walk over its bridge to enter through the stone door.
The easiest way to reach it is to travel to Crowhaven and take the smoother hill near its front door down to the beach.
As you enter the temple and reach the bottom of the steps into the first room, the other Knights of the Nine that you recruited will appear.
Fight the Aurorans in the room and then press a block on the left coffin (from the entry door) before heading through the door to the east at the top of the far stairs.
The knights will attack all of the Aurorans, but beware of the knights' larger numbers. Hitting any of the knights may result in their turning hostile against you or themselves.
On the far side of the room, climb the stairs to the north. There will be a gate ahead, but walking forward enough will trigger an unseen trap to open it.
In this room, take the door to the Ceysel to your right.
The reliquary entrance area is blocked by two gates. To get these gates to lower, you must press the block on the wall between them.
Go through the newly opened gates into an extremely large room with a shining light in the center of the pedestal.
There are several Aurorans in this room, but you should ignore all of them. They infinitely respawn in this room.
Instead:
- Run all the way to the far side of the room on the right side, taking a left once you hit one of the braziers.
- Climb every staircase you see, sprinting as fast as you can and ignoring all enemies until you reach the glowing orb.
- Interact with the orb to destroy it, also eliminating all the Aurorans and ending all combat.
By spending any time fighting Aurorans, you are increasing the likelihood of the knights downstairs dying. Knights that are still alive by the time you reach the orb will be saved.
In the area you are transported to, follow the only path available, killing any aurorans you come across, until you finally reach a large chamber.
Entering this chamber, nearby pedestals will begin to glow, and the staircase will rise. Climb the staircase after making any necessary preparations.
Umaril will appear from behind the throne at the top as you rise.
How To Defeat Umaril The Unfeathered
Umaril is one tough cookie who packs a massive punch. He has the ability to deal tremendous damage while also draining your Stamina (or Fatigue).
Additionally, Umaril has 33 percent Spell Absorption and the following resistances:
Resistances
Magicka
Shock
Fire
33%
100%
33%
As the Sword and Mace of the Crusader deal Fire damage (and the sword also deals Magicka), we recommend having the spell Weakness to Fire and/or Weakness to Magic equipped to make more use of them.
When fighting Umaril in Garlas Malatar, we recommend:
- Using the throne and nearby pedestals as a way to create space. Run around them when you need a moment to heal, switch spells, or equipment.
- Attack Umaril fervently, preferring weapons to magic because of his Spell Absorption.
- Drinking as much as half of your available potions but no more.
Umaril can be soul-trapped but only in the second fight below.
When Umaril is finally defeated, loot his corpse (especially his sword) and the two Varla Stones in the room first. After you are satisfied with your holdings, enter your Magic inventory and locate the spell: Blessing of Talos.
Cast the spell, and you will be transported into a new skybox area where you will be besieged by Umaril again.
Use the same methods above, but when you need space (since there is no throne to save you), simply sprint away to the far edge of the map, and you will be fine.
For some reason, during both of our playthroughs, we faced two Umaril simultaneously in this skybox. Both dealt damage and had the full Umaril stats. The exact trigger of this phenomenon is unknown.
If this happens to you: do not panic. You only need to kill one Umaril, so target only one until it dies.
After Umaril is defeated, you will clip through the floor and plummet. This will send you back to the basement of the Priory of the Nine.
Speak with Sir Amiel until all ghosts disappear and, if you wish it, speak to Sir Berich for his gratitude.
After all the ghosts are gone, you will be able to interact with their tombs in the basement for a unique blessing: Fortify Attribute (+5). Each tomb will give the effect for one chosen attribute.

Strength
Sir Caius
Agility
Sir Casimir

Gregory

Henrik

Juncan

The Fortify Attribute blessing will count against an attribute level's 100 cap if that level is 95-99 and will prevent you from increasing your attribute.
However, if the attribute level was above 95 (or even 100), the Fortify Attribute blessing will count over the cap, meaning you will have an attribute level as high as 105.
Travel upstairs until you are met by Sir Thedret who will exclaim with joy that you are somehow alive.
Follow him upstairs and outside to the group of awaiting Knights of the Nine. Enjoy that sweet celebration as your reward alongside the following hidden benefits:
- You can take any of the knights here with you as a follower companion at any time.
- You can use the forge downstairs for repairing weapons and armour.
- All deceased or missing priests in the chapels will be replaced with new characters, including new trainers.
- You can use the armour stand in the basement to place and upgrade your Crusader's Gear.
Using the armour stand in the basement will convert your weapons and armour from the set into a level scaled to yours. This means that whenever you level up past a challenge rating threshold, you should return here to upgrade your equipment.
