In an all-too-rare bit of good news in the gaming industry, the Supamonks team behind Absolum's art is being moved to another organisation to keep working on the series.

Unless you're a Nintendo fan and letting things breeze by, the last few weeks have been gut punch after gut punch when it comes to news about the gaming industry. Xbox is about to go through some massive layoffs that sound like they could impact nearly any studio, and PlayStation is marching forward with a digital-only future that everyone hates.

All of that has been a constant downer, but the news that hit me the hardest came a few days ago when it was reported that Supamonks, the team behind Absolum's incredible art direction, had entered court-ordered liquidation. That made the future of Absolum look very unclear, but there's been a very positive update that makes it look as bright as ever.

Absolum's Art Team Is Being Moved To Keep Working On The Game And IP

The Animated Series Will Also Live On

Over on Twitter, the official Absolum page shared an update regarding the news about Supamonks, thanking fans for their "many messages of support and questions about the future" of the game. The account confirmed that the Supamonks team that specifically worked on Absolum has moved over to another unnamed organisation.

This means that the Absolum art team has essentially been retained to keep working on the game itself through future updates, the IP as a whole in case anything more is done with it, and the animated series that was announced some time ago. While it's horrible that Supamonks itself has been hit so hard, it looks like Absolum is keeping steady.

That also softly confirms that the Supamonks art team is working on the animated series, since that was only ever suggested in the past.

Absolum is one of the best indie games to have released in the past few years, and had a very bright future ahead of it, so it's amazing to hear that it's not being impacted by the closure of Supamonks. Talamh's wonderful art style will live on, and I'm very grateful for that.
