As you explore the wilds in Ale & Tale: Tavern, you'll come across various mythical creatures, allies, and monsters. Holding your own is one thing, but you'll have to navigate it all while running your own tavern to make enough gold to survive. The final test of your skills is facing the great evil within the dungeon, if you can find it.

When facing this last trial, you'll need to employ all that you've learned thus far to delve into the cave dungeon and defeat the formidable cultist waiting within. Thankfully, we're here to guide you every step of the way.

Where To Find The Cave

The last quest the merchant gives you is to vanquish the ultimate evil within the cave, but he doesn't give you many directions outside of that. You're left to pursue the dark forces on your own, using everything at your disposal.

To find the cave, head out to the east of the tavern, along the river. Cross over the large stones forming a bridge, then continue south along the shoreline. You'll find the entrance to the cave along with mining supplies.

If it's night, there's a lantern that will be lit up just outside.

Make sure you bring a torch or light potions before heading in, along with plenty of ammo for your weapons. You'll be heading in for a while, and death means starting all over.

Bring food and potions to restore your health!

How To Open The Gates

Once you're inside the cave, there are multiple numbered gates that block your path. You'll need to find the corresponding levers to open each gate and reach the inner sanctum of the cave.

It's incredibly dark within the cave, but you can ignite the torches mounted along the floors and walls.

Keep an eye out for all them to unlock an achievement!

When you enter the cave, the first door is marked with the Roman numeral for one. Take the path to the left and follow the staircase down to another gate. Use the lever here, then backtrack and pass through the first gate.

Then, use the lever by the tent to open gate number two, which is located next to the first lever you used. Make your way back there, then hop down the ledge to reach the next area.

Be warned that there are Ghouls and Hounds within the cave! It's hard to see them, but they'll deal a lot of damage.

You can loot the chest under the tent here, but continue along the path to the left through the cave. Move through the next camp, then follow the path with the glowing blue mushrooms to find another lever and a gate.

The lever here opens gate number four, back by the very first camp you found near the entrance. Head back there and take the winding path down to lever number three.

From here, you can either walk all the way back around to the glowing blue mushrooms and take that staircase down to the inner sanctum, or you can hop over the wooden barricade by lever number three and take a shortcut.

You'll know you've reached the final area when a large arch sits before you in the dark. A door marked with the Roman numeral for five blocks the path forward, and the lever to open it is right next to the pillar on your left.

The Cultist Boss Battle

Make sure you're ready to handle the cultist before you head inside. If you die while fighting, you'll have to trek back through the cave and face any monsters that respawn all over again.

If you need to backtrack now to bring potions, ammo, or any additional gear, do it now. Speed potions are especially useful!

Once you enter the arena, the lights will turn on and the cultist will reveal himself. He'll float around the arena and summon Hounds and Ghouls to take you down. Whatever you do, don't stop moving!

The cultist will summon iron bars through the floor which will take half of your health instantly!

While the cultist is much easier to tackle with friends, it can be done alone. There are two staircases on both sides of the arena, which allow you to put space between you and the monsters.

Continue to dash and fire bullets at the cultist until you whittle away its health. Don't worry about the smaller enemies, as they'll only waste your time. Once the cultist is defeated, they'll all drop dead.

The altar at the far end of the arena will be raised, revealing a staircase beneath. Head down to collect a statue of the cultist's trapped spirit, then go through the portal to return to your tavern. Talk with the merchant to complete the quest and continue on with your day-to-day errands at the tavern.
