Assassin's Black Flag Resynced is here, and it already looks like Ubisoft might have a hit on its hands. The remake launched this morning, and as soon as Assassin's Creed fans were able to start playing, more than 85,000 of them hopped onto Steam to reacquaint themselves with Edward Kenway.

More Than 85,000 People Were Waiting To Play Resynced Right Away

85,000 waiting to dive in right away is significant for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, the original Black Flag could only dream of hitting those heights on Steam. Resynced's predecessor topped out at 16,000 concurrent players when it launched, which means Resynced has already registered a player count five times higher than the OG's peak.

Resynced's debut CCU is also incredibly high for any single-player game on Steam, Assassin's Creed or otherwise. That number already ranks it among the top five single-player games released in 2026 with the highest peak player counts. Only Resident Evil Requiem, Mewgenics, Subnautica 2, and rival pirate game Windrose have bettered it.

It's also highly unlikely that Resynced stops at 85,000. Not only do Steam games typically see their numbers go up from release day as they head into their first weekend and more people are off work and school and available to play, but the game launched on a Thursday morning in the US. That's where most of its players will be, and, amazingly, there were 85,000 people ready and raring to go at 10 am.

Resynced's Player Count Is Still Going Up As We Speak

Even as I type this, Resynced keeps breaking its own record every time I hit refresh. There are currently almost 98,000 of you playing on Steam right now, according to SteamDB, and that number is only going to keep going up. It will comfortably top 100,000 players before the end of the day, if not by the time I hit publish on this article. It will then almost certainly beat that number again on Friday, and maybe even again after that over the weekend.

If you do plan on hopping into the Black Flag remake right away, beware of a progress-wiping bug that was flagged during its review period. The problem seems to stem from Resynced's Templar Hunts, side quests that you need to complete to retrieve the Templar Keys. Continuing the main quest while leaving them unfinished, and the main quest then infringing on the area where those unfinished side quests are, can result in a softlock and leave you having to reload a previous save, potentially one made hours earlier.
