Summary

  • PlayStation has added an Astro Bot Cameos section to PS Plus.
  • The section includes every game reference in Astro Bot that's available on PS Plus.
  • Hopefully the section will grow as new Bots are added via Astro's speedrun levels and beyond.

Astro Bot is not only a fantastic platformer, but one that celebrates PlayStation's history with its growing roster of Bots pulling from games many haven't thought about for years or maybe hadn't heard of at all. If you have been reminded of an old game by an Astro Bot Bot, or happened upon a character whose games you'd like to go back and play for the first time, PlayStation Plus now has a section dedicated to games represented by Bots in Astro Bot.

Spotted by IGN's Kevin Diaz, the aptly-named Astro Bot Cameos section includes the games represented by Bots in what appear to be the order they can be found with the characters that have their own levels taking precedence. Minor spoilers for Astro Bot's PlayStation mascot-themed levels, but the Ape Escape one comes first, then God Of War, Uncharted, and so on, as represented by the order of the games in the Astro Bot Cameos PS Store section.

Even though it's set to default, when I checked the section myself, the games were in an entirely different order. As with any sections on PS Plus, the games can be ordered by release date or platform, whichever you prefer.

The section should be live on your PS5 now and the tab for it can be found at the bottom of the screen when in the PS Plus section. Odd that there isn't one on the PS Store so people without Plus can buy the games, but appreciated as this way subscribers can explore PlayStation's history at no additional cost. Particularly the older games which are locked behind PS Plus Premium, the subscription service's highest tier, if they were released on a platform older than the PS4.

The Whole Point Of Astro Is To Celebrate PlayStation's History, So Go Celebrate

Even though I've rolled credits on the game, a quick look at the titles included in the Cameos collection has revealed some of the Bots I'm yet to find. I don't recall rescuing Returnal's Selene Bot yet, for example, although I was fairly certain she'd be in there. I also didn't realize that some of the golf stuff in Astro Bot was a reference to Everybody's Golf which is available on PS Plus Extra.

PlayStation does appear to have stuck to games you can play through PS Plus for now with the likes of God Of War Ragnarok missing from the Astro Bot Cameos collection. Helldivers 2 and Rise Of The Ronin aren't in there either, although those two were only added to the game last week. Days Gone is in there too which I'm sure John Garvin is thrilled about.
