Maces are great melee weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3. Relying on Strength for Attack Roles, maces are best for classes like Druids, Clerics, Fighters, and Paladins. The one-handed weapons deal out Bludgeoning damage and specialize in the Concussive Smash action if you have the right proficiency.

Perfect for close combat, some of the maces in the game have unique effects and spells to elevate your attacks. Regardless of which Act you’re in, you’ll be able to find a powerful mace to defend you during battle. Selecting the right one can make or break a fight, so choose your weapon wisely.

10 Ceremonial Mace

Close

While it’s not the most powerful weapon in the game, the Ceremonial Mace slightly boosts your power during combat. Found at the Rosymorn Monastery, it’s actually a part of the Blood of Lathander questline. It specifically helps solve the Dawnmaster’s Crest puzzle.

If you choose not to finish the quest, however, this weapon is lightly enchanted and can still boost your abilities a bit, functioning as your typical +1 Mace. If you can finish the quest, however, we recommend The Blood of Lathander, as discussed later on.

How to get this mace:

  • Act One: Loot from a Kobold in the Rosymorn Monastery Firewine storage room.

9 Infernal Mace

Close

A step up from the Ceremonial Mace, the Infernal Mace deals extra Poison Damage on top of your base Bludgeoning damage. This rare, +2 mace will possibly poison a target on a hit, making them suffer Disadvantage on Attack Rolls and Ability Checks.

This mace can be acquired in multiple places throughout the Final Act, so there is a good chance you’ll run into it at some point. While there are better maces in Act Three, this is a decent weapon if you’re in a pinch.

How to get this mace:

  • Act Three: Loot from Black Gauntlet Tamia Holzt in the Steel Watch Foundry.
  • Act Three: Loot from Black Gauntlets of Bane Aischa, Greyward, Ignur, and Mohlen at Wyrm’s Rock Fortress.
  • Act Three: Loot from Black Gauntlets of Bane Uva and Fists of Bane Hyrriet, and Volgu Drak at Felogyr’s Fireworks.

8 Lovitar’s Scourge

Close

In Act Two, you may have an unorthodox and religious encounter with Abdirak, as he strikes you with a mace to bless you with Lovitar’s Love. The mace he uses is Lovitar’s Scourge, and you can acquire it for yourself.

  • Act One: Loot or purchase from Abdirak in the Shattered Sanctum.

7 Xyanyde

Close

Xyanyde is a great mace, as you impact your target even when you don't cause direct damage. Wielding this +1 weapon gives you the ability to use Faerie Fire to any targets you miss once per Short Rest. That means even if you don’t hit your enemy, you make them more vulnerable to incoming attacks.

They also won’t be able to turn invisible, which is a big advantage against certain foes like Yrgir and certain Assassins. This Mace is carried by Minthara, so there are a couple ways you can get it, whether you kill her or recruit her.

How to get this mace:

  • Act One: Loot from Minthara’s body in the Shattered Sanctum or after the Grove battle.
  • Act Two: Recruit Minthara from the Moonrise Towers prison.

6 Adamantine Mace

Close

The Adamantine Mace is one of the craftable items you can make at the Adamantine Forge. While forging this item can take a few complicated steps, it’s worth it for the damage it can do.

This rare, +1 mace ignores Resistance to Bludgeoning damage, making it a threat to all enemies. Additionally, it always lands a Critical Hit on an object, making it a great tool for taking down walls and obstructed pathways.

  • Act One: Craft it in the Adamantine Forge in the Grymforge using the Mace Mould and Mithral Ore.

The Lethal Weapon passive applies to unarmed strikes made while it is equipped. The game does not allow most characters to make unarmed strikes while a melee weapon is equipped, but Monks can do this.

5 Shattered Flail

Close

If you want a weapon to give you extra healing abilities, the Shattered Flail is a great option. The rare +2 mace heals the wielder whenever you hit an enemy. The downside is, you can also go Mad if you don’t consistently hit your foes each turn.

The Madness makes you hostile to everyone in the area, including your own party. It’s a risky trade-off, but one that may be worth taking if you desperately need to increase your Hit Points.

How to get this mace:

  • Act One: Loot from Flind, a Gnoll attacking the Zhentarim caravan on The Risen Road.

4 Handmaiden’s Mace

Close

The Handmaiden’s Mace comes in handy when you need to strengthen a member of your party. The very race, +2 mace sets the wielder's Strength to 18, which comes in handy for characters who wish to increase their damage output.

  • Act Three: Loot from Mother Superior Viconia in The House of Grief.

3 Devotee’s Mace

Close

The Devotee’s Mace is perfect for your cleric, though other classes can benefit as well. The legendary +3 mace excels at dealing Radiant Damage as well as its healing abilities. The wielder can create a healing aura to help all nearby allies.

This magical mace is only available through a unique Cleric spell, but it’s a must-have for your religious spellcaster. It’s an ideal weapon for Shadowheart, if she’s in your party.

  • Act Three: Use Divine Intervention: Arm Thy Servant once your cleric reaches Level 10.

Divine Intervention is a one-time use spell. Choose when you want to use it wisely.

2 Twist Of Fortune

Close

Twist Of Fortune is one of the best maces in Baldur’s Gate 3. While the base damage may not seem impressive, the +1 weapon has a unique action which allows you to reroll your dice if you originally roll a two or less.

You also deal damage regardless of whether or not you miss and can strike out greedily, dealing additional damage for every 300 gold your enemy has on them. The gold will be consumed. This mace gives you a significant advantage, particularly when you’re in combat with wealthy enemies.

How to get this mace:

  • Act Two: Loot from Gerringothe Thorm in the Reithwin Tollhouse.

1 Blood Of Lathander

Close

The best mace in the game is the Blood Of Lathander. Found in Act One, you can use it for the entirety of the game. Not only does it have a +3 enchantment, but it also gives you an extra healing ability, emits Holy Light in a 20-foot radius, potentially blinds enemies, and gives the wielder the ability to cast Sunbeam.

The only issue is the complicated steps it takes to acquire the legendary mace. It involves local ceremonial weapons, solving a puzzle, and potentially escaping an exploding Monastery. For such an overpowered weapon, it’s definitely worth the challenge.

How to get this mace:

  • Act One: Grab from a locked altar in the Secret Chamber under the Creche after navigating various puzzles.

The weapon can be removed from the altar with the Dawnmaster's Crest, or by force, which will trigger a sun cannon that destroys the entire monastery.
