BBC Radio 4 is an institution in the UK, known for its quality programming covering current affairs, politics, international affairs, drama, comedy, history and science. But it's also known for its diverse inclusion of topics and video game-themed subjects have been known to occasionally feature on the venerable station. The latest one is quite the in-depth series featuring one Sam Fisher.

The adaptation is titled Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Firewall and is airing on BBC Radio 4 next month (thanks GamesIndustry.biz). It'll be an eight-part series starring our man in the shadows, Fourth Echelon agent Sam Fisher. The series centres around a mission to recruit and prepare a new generation of operatives, and listeners can expect some interesting personalities in the mix as they're trained up.

Among the cast is at least one big hitter. Starring as Fisher is The Archers' actor Adonis Anthony and Daisy Head plays his daughter Sarah. The rest of the actors on the bill include Rosalie Craig, Nikesh Patel, Sacha Dhawan, and perhaps the most recognisable name for the international audience is The Maze Runner and Bandersnatch actor Will Poulter.

"I really hope fans of the Splinter Cell game enjoy this, as not only does it have all the action, tension and excitement that the game is famous for, but it also has more elements - there is a lot comedy, the drama is expanded and horizons broadened by the characters and what they get up to," Poulter said, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. "It is taking the best of Splinter Cell and building on that to make something really well-rounded."

In other news, Ubisoft has been dripping more information around its remake or reboot of Splinter Cell recently, revealing the first concept images and teasing how the new game will rework some of the original games' elements. Meanwhile, radio is not the only medium that will be getting some Fisher action as there is a Netflix adaptation also in the works.
