For those looking for inspiration for their group's next fright night, there's plenty to choose from. Whether you're looking to take down the zombie apocalypse for the umpteenth time or seek escape from a psychological virtual reality nightmare that's sure to have you and your friends screaming out the door. Whatever your poison, here are our picks for the best co-operative, survival horror games around.

14 Friday The 13th The Game

Gone, But Not Forgotten

If you're a fan of classic horror, why not experience the frights and thrills of Camp Crystal Lake for yourself in Friday the 13th: The Game. Here, you and your friends must take on the roles of the flippant teen counselors from the films, finding yourselves pursued by the notorious serial killer Jason Voorhees.

Together, you must hide, evade, and survive cinema's most prolific killer in a seven-on-one game that, if your lucky, could even see you take down the unkillable man for yourselves. The only catch? One of you must play the infamous slasher villain against them. This is one sure to quickly turn friends, into foes.

Sadly because of licensing issues, the game has been delisted from all digital storefronts as of Dec. 31, 2024, rendering it all but defunct. For anyone who still has the game, the servers will be up at least until Dec. 31, 2024, so enjoy the game while you can.

12 Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Survival 4.0/5 Released August 18, 2023 Developer(s) Sumo Nottingham Publisher(s) Gun Interactive Multiplayer Online Multiplayer Franchise The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One Powered by Expand Collapse

Based on the grindhouse classic of the same name, casts you as murderous and cannibalistic Slaughter Family (which includes Leatherface) or their unfortunate Victims who are trying to escape.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre was made by Gun Interactive, the same people behind Friday The 13th The Video Game and it similarly bucks the 4v1 asymmetric formula popularized by Dead By Daylight. Matches are composed of seven players (three killers, four survivors), and whatever side you’re on, teamwork is what will win you the day.

The Family are deadly on their home turf, but are slower than the desperate Victims, so coordinating with your friends makes you a much more lethal team. Victims on the other hand are almost helpless, but wily, and if they communicate and coordinate, they might live to escape the match.

10 Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game

They're Koming For You

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game

Survival Horror Released June 4, 2024 ESRB Mature 17+ // Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Suggestive Themes Developer(s) Illfonic, Teravision Games Publisher(s) IllFonic Publishing Multiplayer Online Multiplayer Franchise Killer Klowns from Outer Space Platform(s) PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC Powered by Expand Collapse

As horrifying as it is hilarious, this game puts you in the oversized honking shoes of clown alien invaders who are trying to activate a doomsday device powered by horrifically transformed humans, or the humans trying to escape them.

Whether you’re one of three murderous clowns or the seven humans resisting them, Killer Klowns is better with some friends. Even with their high-tech hi-jinx, the Klowns are outnumbered and a group of well-armed humans can dispatch them with ease, if only temporarily.

Humans, on the other hand, want to work together for all the standard asymmetric game reasons and also in one novel way. Each escape route only works once and only for a few people. If your friends are in the lobby, you’re much less likely to be abandoned. Or at least you can yell at your friends for ditching you afterwards.
