Puzzle Adventure Virtual Reality 3.5/5 10.0/10 Released June 25, 2024 Developer(s) Cyan Worlds Inc Publisher(s) Cyan Worlds Inc Platform(s) Meta Quest, PC OpenCritic Rating Mighty Powered by Expand CollapseRiven is an old school puzzle game that came out in 1997. A popular game for its time, but to see it remade today was quite a pleasant surprise. This is one of those remakes that got a bit of an overhaul to meet today's standards of gaming.
While the graphics are somewhat similar to the original, minus updated character designs, the gameplay has seen quite a change. In the original, you would click to get from place to place. Usually the backdrops would be static, and you would move to the next static image, with occasional moving images. The Riven of 2024, however, allows you to fully roam in the allotted space in a completely 3D environment. The puzzles in the game are the same as the rest of the game, but it was interesting to note the shift in gameplay to the original.

It was taken so well that it's no surprise the game was remastered with some nice additions. The addition in question is an entirely different story, this time featuring the character Shadow the Hedgehog, hence the name, Sonic X Shadow Generations.
This additional game mode takes inspiration from the original Sonic Generations, where it is a compilation of stages from a particular game. That game is none other than Shadow the Hedgehog, which was released on the GameCube, PlayStation, and Xbox in 2005. The story follows the origins of Shadow, and is a great addition to an already great game.

JRPG 4.0/5 10.0/10 Released February 2, 2024 Developer(s) P-Studio Publisher(s) Atlus Platform(s) PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 OpenCritic Rating Mighty Powered by Expand CollapsePersona 3 was the catalyst for the Persona series; going from a spin-off of another series to becoming its own standalone series. So it only makes sense that the first game to be remade was Persona 3 Reload.
Persona 3 Reload takes the graphics and models of Persona 5, as well as the combat style of that game too. Along with new cutscenes and a refreshing coat of paint on Tartarus, this game genuinely doesn't feel like a remake, but a brand-new game made for 2024.

This game series was well renowned in its time, being one of the best RPGs in all its 2D glory. The 2D nature of this game is mentioned because that's where the meat of this remake comes from.
Not only were the backgrounds and music updated, but the entire game has become a complete 3D experience. This is quite different from its origins being fully 2D, and it adds a nice touch. Rather than delving in fully into a 3D remake of the game, the game is still 2D, but in a 3D environment. The textures and backgrounds are 3D, while the sprites are 2D while at the same time being 3D by popping up in a way that feels like they are 3D rather than 2D.
This gives the game a refreshing experience that most games don't have. In addition to the 2D-3D nature of this remake, it also features voice acting as well as some original content that differs from the original.
