Summary

  • Bethesda's support for fan project Skyblivion is continuing, as the studio has given the project a shout-out in a recent developer spotlight.
  • In the video, development lead Dan Lee called Skyblivion "very special", and that he's "still excited for Skyblivion" despite the release of the official remaster.

When it comes to supporting fan creations, you have to give The Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda more credit than most big publishers out there. Even if you're not a fan of the system itself, Bethesda has used ideas like the Creation Club to try and help dedicated modders to make new content for their games, and the developer has benefited many times over the years thanks to unofficial patches.

Bethesda supports even bigger projects too, as despite having known it was going to remaster The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for quite some time, it allowed the Skyblivion fan project to keep going despite being potential competition. In fact, Bethesda has been so supportive when it comes to Skyblivion that it even sent every team member free game keys for Oblivion Remastered after its official reveal.

It's clear that there's a lot of love between the Skyblivion team and Bethesda, and the studio has demonstrated that once again with a touching little shout-out during a recent developer spotlight for Development Lead Dan Lee (thanks PC Gamer).

Bethesda Further Endorses Skyblivion With A Touching Shout-Out

In the video, Lee talks about his work at Bethesda over the years, having helped out on massive projects like the original Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and the recently released Oblivion Remastered. He then goes on to list some of the fan projects that he's seen during his time at the studio that he's a big fan of, and specifically mentions Skyblivion.

"Even though I worked on Oblivion Remastered," said Lee. "I'm still excited for Skyblivion. I think what they're doing is very special, and I'm excited to see their interpretation of what we've done in the past. I think it's a great year for Oblivion fans."

It is indeed a great year for Oblivion fans, as Skyblivion is scheduled to release at some point in 2025 too. There was some speculation whether the official remaster had thrown a spanner in the works, but those behind the project have said that both titles can "exist and thrive together", and that the team is "all love and no hate" towards Bethesda. After all, who wouldn't want two helpings of Oblivion?
