Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Is Already Breaking Records
According to ISPreview, Black Ops 6 caused a huge surge in live internet usage on UK provider EE/BT, breaking its previous record for gaming traffic.
ISPreview suggests that the largest spike in traffic came on Monday, October 21, the day the game became available for preload, with traffic driven so high due to its more-than-100 GB file size.
The website attributes part of the 144% week-on-week increase to the fact that this is the first year that the title will be available on Xbox Game Pass, something Microsoft will be very happy to hear.
The company has struggled in 2024, beginning the year with 1,900 job cuts and recently changing Game Pass subscriptions in a way that upset fans. It was reported that Microsoft is "banking on" this year's Call of Duty to turn its fortunes around, boosting Game Pass subs, with an analyst suggesting that the company may be in luck. Wedbush's Michael Pachter recently predicted the game could bring in as many as four million new subscribers.
While the game's early numbers may be promising, its player sentiment, unfortunately, isn't. The game debuted to "Mixed" reviews on Steam, with players frustrated at the number of bugs, its overreliance on COD HQ, and its online requirements for the single-player campaign.
