Usually, a chess game is a game of strategy and skill. The chess puzzle in Blue Prince, however, involves some strategy, but ultimately relies on the rooms that each day randomly generates. Once you've solved it, though, you'll get access to some fun powers that you can use to help you in the game.

How To Find The Chess Puzzle
After you solve the puzzle of the four blue flames, take the elevator down the cliff to the Precipice. Follow the long tunnel, then the last right turn at the end takes you into a large chamber. In the center is a stone slab surrounded by water with a single walkway.
On the stone slab is a checkered board with six chess pieces on either side of it. You should notice that it isn't your standard chess board, but looks just like your house's blueprint.
How To Solve The Chess Puzzle
If you've ever gone into one of your rooms and wondered 'Why is there a Knight chess piece in here?', that's your biggest clue. The chess pieces aren't in these rooms just for decoration and are key to solving this puzzle.
Your goal is to have at least one of each of the six chess pieces you saw by the chessboard in your house, but it can be tricky. For example, you will almost always have multiple Pawns in your house, but the Queen and King may be harder to come by.
One way you can make sure you always get the chance to draft the rooms you need, you can turn down the rarity of each room. This can be done using the Conservatory, a room that's unlocked in the Drafting Room.

When you have all six chess pieces in your house, go back to the chess board inside the Precipice. Make note of which squares each of your chess pieces are in your house, and place those chess pieces in the proper spaces on the board.
You'll know you've placed a chess piece correctly when the square underneath it lights up.
Once all six chess pieces are in their proper places, six panels will open up at the back of the chamber, revealing large statues of each chess piece. The game will then tell you to "Choose Your Piece To Receive A New Permanent Power."
Rewards For Solving The Chess Puzzle
The chess puzzle can be solved as many times as you want, and each time you solve it, you get to choose a different reward.
If you choose a new reward, the previous one will be negated and no longer applied to you until you solve the puzzle again.
You'll have the choice of six rewards each time you solve the chess puzzle, one for each chess piece.
