Summary

  • According to a new interview, the Black Ops 6 campaign will be longer than the Cold War campaign.
  • At its lowest, the Cold War campaign took about six hours, meaning Black Ops 6 will be pretty long.
  • Even if you try to speed-run the game, it'll still be a lengthy experience.

It's officially fall, and beyond oversized sweaters, sweet treats and lots of food, it means another Call of Duty is nearly upon us. This year, we're headed back to the world of Black Ops, as Black Ops 6 is due to arrive on October 25. It'll also be on Game Pass, marking the first day-and-date COD title to be on the service.

In the leadup to Black Ops 6's launch, the team at Treyarch has revealed a wealth of details, including multiplayer customization and Zombies. However, no Call of Duty game is complete without its signature campaign, and via a new interview with IGN, we now have some details about what to expect.

Hint: It's going to be long.

Black Ops 6's Campaign Will Be Lengthy In The Best Way

Jon Zuk, associate creative director at Raven Software, the team behind Black Ops 6's campaign, revealed that the game's single-player story has been in the works for some time. Per Zuk, the team has been hard at work for four years, and the extra time has been a massive benefit.

“The extra development time certainly gives us time to do a little bit more prototyping and a little bit more trying something out, finding out if it's fun and if it works and throwing some things away,” Zuk said. He added, "So I do feel like we had good opportunities to keep crafting and recrafting the missions until we were happy with them."

As a result, players can expect the Black Ops 6 campaign to be longer than Cold War's offering. More so, the safehouse environment has been greatly expanded upon to add additional gameplay elements.

“You can go back, you can talk to your team, you can upgrade your weapon and your equipment and things like that,” Zuk said. “And you can do a little bit of searching around the safehouse.” That said, even if you try to speedrun the campaign, it'll still be a lengthy experience.

"So I think that the game length is going to be variable from player to player, but even if you do try to do the speed-run version of it, it is going to be longer than Cold War," Zuk affirmed.

According to HowLongToBeat, the Cold War campaign is about 5 1/2 hours if you solely focus on the main missions. Doing any of the side activities brings that length up to 7 hours, with completionists clocking nearly 15 hours of game time. That would mean that Black Ops 6 at its fastest would seemingly take 7-plus hours.

With so many companies focusing on multiplayer, the single-player side of things often feels ignored. Or it gets removed altogether, like in recent Battlefield entries. But it appears that Black Ops 6 is looking to buck that trend, and that alone is worth celebrating.
