Summary

  • PlayStation has added a Black Ops 6 PS5 bundle to its store for Days of Play.
  • The bundle is cheaper to buy than a PS5 without a game, regardless of which version you choose.
  • It joins a previously revealed Astro Bot bundle that's also cheaper than a standalone PS5.

PlayStation's Days of Play sale is now live, and with it comes the first time it has cut the price of the PS5 Pro. If you're in the US and were hoping regular PS5s were going on sale, unfortunately, they're not. There is a new way to get one for less thanks to a bundle that was introduced to kick off the sale, though.

A Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 PS5 bundle is now available to buy via PlayStation Direct. A game published by Xbox having its own official PS5 bundle feels like we're living in a different timeline to the one we called home five years ago, but that's not the headline here. The big takeaways are the prices - $449.99 for the standard PS5 bundle, and $399.99 for a digital edition with a copy of Black Ops 6.

The reason the prices are notable is because, since neither of those consoles is getting a price cut during Days of Play, the bundles cost less than the PS5s when bought with a copy of the newest Call of Duty game. A standard, slim version of the console is $499.99, while the digital edition of the console is $449.99, the same price as the standard CoD bundle.

PlayStation Has Added A Second Way To Buy A PS5 For Less When Bundled With A Game

It Joins The Astro Bot Bundle That's Still Available

That means you currently have the option of paying $450/$500 for a PS5, or you can pay $50 less for whichever version of the console you want, with a $70 game thrown in for good measure. Even if you have no desire to play Black Ops 6, you may as well buy the cheaper bundle. You never know, you might end up becoming a converted Call of Duty fan.

Unfortunately, regardless of the console version you go for, the game you get will be a digital copy. That means no trading it in if you don't want it to try and lower the cost of your PS5 even more.

This isn't the first time PlayStation has done this. Astro Bot got its own bundle earlier this year, and that too has been priced the same way as the new Black Ops 6 bundle. It's clearly intentional and not a mistake either, as the Astro Bot bundle went on sale weeks ago and is still available for those reduced prices.

PlayStation 5 Console - Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle

PlayStation has bundled the PS5 together with digital copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The bundle is available either with a standard PS5, or with the slightly cheaper digital edition of the current-gen console.

From $400 at PlayStation Direct Expand Collapse

As odd as it is to sell a console for less with a game than without one, it's surprising and a slight relief to see PlayStation not following the industry trend and raising the price of the PS5. With Xbox increasing its prices considerably earlier this month, I'm sure it's coming, but for now, PlayStation is holding firm.
