Resident Evil Veronica Probably Isn't Leading Into A Resi 5 Remake, As Capcom Reportedly Has "No Idea" What To Do With It
Resident Evil fans have done well in recent years. Back-to-back remakes have bridged the gap between new mainline entries, so we usually don't have to wait long for a new game.
However, it sounds like the remake well could finally be about to dry up. As spotted by Insider Gaming, reliable insider Dust Golem says that Capcom has no plans to start work on remakes of Resident Evil 5 and 6 anytime soon. In fact, he says that Capcom has "no f**king idea" what it wants to do with these games, even as it's running out of games it can remake.
Resident Evil 5 And 6 Will Be Remade At Some Point, But Not Anytime Soon, According To A Reliable Insider
"Capcom has no f**king idea right now what they want to do with RE5 and RE6 in remaking them, if they ever even decide to do them," Dusk Golem says in a ResetEra thread.
He also shoots down the theory that remakes of Resident Evil 5 and 6 would be altered to lead up to the newly released Resident Evil Requiem. "They'll only decide what they want to do with an RE5/RE6 Remake if they ever decide to actually do them," he says. "There's not some 'master plan' to any of this, they aren't thinking that far ahead about it."
Instead, he says that Capcom would be more interested in laying out the next five years for the series. We already know that this will include Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, next year. DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is also expected, but not until Veronica is out of the way.
Nothing has been confirmed beyond that, but it is rumoured that a remake of the first Resident Evil is in the works. We can say that a source that gave us accurate details about Resident Evil Requiem about two years before release also said that a Resi 1 remake was in development. They claimed at the time that the remake would be in first person, but of course, this was said back in 2024, so much could have changed since then.
Dusk Golem has since backed up the Resident Evil 1 Remake rumours, so there is a very good chance that this will be Capcom's next project after Veronica. Beyond that, though, we'll just have to wait and see.
As for Resident Evil 5 and 6, Dusk still expects remakes at some point, just not any time soon. It's interesting that he notes that Capcom doesn't know what to do with them, because fans have long feared that RE5 would have to undergo some changes if it were remade. Furthermore, RE6 wasn't a particularly loved entry in the series, so fans would expect improvements, rather than a faithful remake.
