The Chromatic Abbest is one of the biggest challenges you'll stumble across in the first hours of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Posts By Raza MalikAs you travel, you may find yourself coming across unique specimens hiding in secluded arenas known as Chromatic variants. These Chromatic Nevrons are larger and more powerful than their normal variants, and often boast the need for unique tactics when fighting them. If you can manage to overcome their challenge, you'll be rewarded handsomely.
How To Find The Chromatic Ramasseur
The Chromatic Ramasseur is found in the Visages, an area that only becomes accessible once Esquie regains the ability to swim at the end of Act I and the ability to crush coral, which is obtained after visiting Old Lumière.
Once at the Visage, you'll need to take the second path on the left side of the central area with the Gestral Merchant that leads into the Sadness Mask.
It sends you to a rainy area with a blue tone, and from the Flag there, go down the hill towards a set of three enemies sitting in a graveyard, then go past them to the left, up the hill, and then follow the path towards an open arena with the Chromatic Ramasseur in the middle.
How To Beat The Chromatic Ramasseur
- Recommended Level: At least 33.
- Recommended Weapons: Algueron or Sadon (Sciel), Saperim (Lune), Contorso or Gaulteram (Verso), Stalum (Maelle), and Monocaro or Ballaro (Monoco)
- Recommended Skills: Marking Card or Spectral Sweep (Sciel), Immolation or Wildfire (Lune), Marking Shot or Purification (Verso), Rain of Fire (Maelle), Chalier Combo, Chevalière Piercing or Stalact Punches (Monoco)
The Chromatic Ramasseur is tough and has a unique way of battling it – you can only damage it with Counterattacks until you stun the boss by Breaking it.
The Boss is resistant to Dark element, so with characters like Sciel and Verso, you'll want to avoid using Dark element skills, even if it applies Foretell, as you don't have the same amount of time to take advantage of it as normal.
During the battle, the boss willget infinite turnsunless it's Broken, and even if you have Pictos guaranteeing you act first, none of your characters will receive turns.
The Chromatic Ramasseur has three types of attacks you need to deal with:
- A Mortal Hit, which does a single hit for extremely high damage.
- A short combo, which does four hits.
- A long combo, which does eight hits.
Both the short and long combos have the same message of the boss performing a combo with a Nevron arm, so the only tell is if the attack continues after the fourth hit, and the slight delay in between the combo sections.
Because of this, you'll want to go into this battle not only with high HP to help mitigate any missed Parries, but good attack, and any Pictos that boost Counterattack and Break damage, give bonus damage in return for not being able to heal, or reduce damage, such as:

The easiest time to get a Counterattack is when the Chromatic Ramasseur does either the Mortal Hit or Short Combo, since there are fewer hits to deal with.
If they do the eight-hit combo, but you miss a Parry, you can go ahead and swap to dodging for the entire combo to try and prevent as much damage as possible, since you'll already have missed out on the Counterattack opportunity.
Since the boss gets infinite turns most of the time, you can dodge everything and wait for his Mortal Hit and Short Combo to give yourself the best opportunity to do damage.
When you successfully Counterattack, a message will pop up saying that the Chromatic Ramasseur has been weakened, signaling you're making progress.
If you hit around four Counterattacks in a row, depending on your Break damage, you will Break the boss and stun it, which allows you to get a few turns like normal.
Use the highest damage skills you have during this time, especially those of the Light element, to hit the Chromatic Ramasseur's weakness in combination with skills that put stacks of Burn on the boss for extra damage per turn, like Lune's Immolation and Maelle's Rain of Fire.
After each of your three characters has had a turn, the boss will become unstunned, and you'll need to repeat the same process of getting damage on it via Counterattacks until you defeat it or break it again.
Once it's dead, you'll get a massive amount of EXP, the Augmented Counter II Pictos, two Resplendent Chroma Catalysts, and five Colour of Lumina. And, outside the battle, you can also grab the Glass Cannon Pictos from a pile of debris in the corner of the arena.
