While typically, the Dynasty Warriors games have told the full story across many of its games, in an interview with TheGamer at Tokyo Game Show, Omega Force head and Dynasty Warriors: Origins director Tomohiko Sho told me that the new title won't tell the whole story.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Won't Tell The Full Romance Of The Three Kingdoms Story

In Dynasty Warriors' past, the games have taken key characters from Luo Guanzhong's novel and adapted them into their own story. Sho-san tells me that Dynasty Warriors: Origins will take a different path.

“In the previous games, we’ve shown the entire Romance of the Three Kingdoms storyline, but in this game, we’re only focusing on the first half of the story, which is up to the Battle of Chibi or the Battle of the Red Cliffs,” he said.

Sho-san explains, "We really wanted to be thorough and intense in telling this story; it’s one of the epic points, so we’re only focusing on up until that point."

We really wanted to be thorough and intense in telling this story.

The game's director cites the fact that Origins only tells the first half of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story as one of three core reasons that the game dropped the usual numbering convention in its title, a staple of the series up until this point.

In our Tokyo Game Show preview, we said, "Although I had a blast with the game, I’m not sure Origins does enough differently to suck a lapsed fan such as myself back into the series. Those who have stuck with it through thick and thin, on the other hand, are in for an absolute treat."
