Fungril resemble humanoid-like mushrooms that come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, allowing for ultimate character customization for your adventure. When you select this ancestry, you get to design a playable creature that can resemble any number of fungi, mushrooms, or even spores.

If you're jumping into Daggerheart for the first time, and you're not sure what ancestry you'd like to play as, you should consider fungril. Not only are they incredibly unique, but their features are very powerful. Here's how fungril work in Daggerheart.

Fungril Ancestry Overview

As stated previously, fungril are highly diverse and can range in height anywhere from two to seven feet. They can also communicate telepathically, and have an incredibly long lifespan.

Each fungril has a fungril cap that can look like any kind of mushroom cap you can imagine. These continue to grow throughout their lifetime and can end up being quite large.

Here's an overview of the fungril acnestry in Daggerheart.

Fungril Features

Details

Fungril Network

As a fungril, you can make an Instinct Roll (12) to use your fungi-like powers to speak telepathically to any other creature of your ancestry.

There is no range limit on this ability, meaning you can communicate with other fungril hundreds of miles away.

Death Connection

As a fungril, you can touch the body of any creature that died recently, and mark a Stress on your character sheet to extract one memory from the corpse.

These memories must be related to an emotion of some kind, so you'll have to hone in on the type of memory you're trying to extract.

Because fungril can extract memories from the dead, they're excellent for roleplay-heavy Daggerheart campaigns and for uncovering mysteries that your GM might lay out for you.

What Classes Work Best For Fungril?

While the fungril's Death Connection feature can be used by any number of classes, because the Fungril Network feature relies on the Instinct skill, it can be helpful to select classes that synergize well with Instinct skills. Here are some classes that work well with fungril.

Class

Warden of Renewal Druid

A druid's spellcast trait is Instinct, meaning you'll likely place a high modifier in this stat.

If you have a higher Instinct modifier, the more likely it is you'll be able to use your Fungril Network feature.

In addition, Warden of Renewal druids have a feature known as Clarity of Nature, which allows them to clear Stress equal to their Instinct once per long rest, equally distributed among themselves and their allies.

This means that having a higher Instinct benefits both your druid abilities and your fungril ones, making for great class-ancestry synergy.

Sorcerer (Elemental or Primal)

Fungril make for great sorcerers, as both subclasses in this class use Instinct as their primary spellcast trait.

While ancestries don't always make the biggest impact on your class selection, selecting classes and ancestries that benefit from the same stats creates good character optimization for your campaign.

What Communities Work Best For Fungril?

Most of the communities in Daggerheart can be tailored to your preference, however, for the best roleplay potential, you will likely want to consider one of the below communities.

Community

Details

Ridgeborne

Ridgeborne are used to rough-and-tumble landscapes and jagged mountainsides. They are accustomed to the natural world and are highly loyal.

This community's feature is known as Steady, and grants advantages on rolls to traverse cliffs, ledges, or other harsh environments.

Because fungril make for great druids, a naturally inclined background tends to make a lot of roleplay sense in terms of character concept.

Wildborne

This community is focused on characters who spent much of their lives surrounded by nature. The community description even showcases mushroom-like homes as examples of environments where these characters might've lived.

Additionally, wildbornes have advantage on rolls to avoid being heard while moving.

Because fungril can communicate telepathically, being naturally stealthy in this way means they can communicate with allies about their position without speaking, making them excellent scouts.

Remember, when it comes to communities in Daggerheart, your character concept is ultimately more important than optimization.

Pick whatever background speaks more to your idea of your character as opposed to optimization. The above options are simply there to inform you about possible ability synergies you can experiment with as you play.
