If you like the SRPG genre, most likely, you also love to create armies and lead them to victory. Dark Deity works as a solid entry in the genre since you can guide characters and turn them into the classes you prefer. Some focus on magic, others use solid hits, and some provide support.

However, the game has multiple systems, so you may find playing and working around the enemy complex. If you want to perform well and make it through the levels, you should see which tips may help you. Doing so will let you craft an effective party that can defeat anything the enemy throws your way.

Balance Your Party

Each character can choose between four different class types, so you'll want to go through them and see what they offer. To balance your team effectively, you should consider where each one excels by going through their aptitudes. For example, Irving excels with high health and strength, so he works as a tremendous up-close and damaging unit.

You can check any character's aptitude by choosing Units in your menu and selecting the stats to switch to the aptitudes. These let you know the percentage chance each unit will increase the corresponding stats when they level up. For example, Alden has a 70 percent aptitude for his magic, so 70 percent of his level ups will increase his magic. If you keep these aptitudes in mind, you can choose classes to emphasize their strengths and work with the army.

Focus On A Weapon Type

Every character can equip four weapon types: power, finesse, focus, and balance. Each has its benefits and place, so you'll want to work on all of them to handle different enemy types.

Weapon Type

What It Focuses On

When To Use it

Power

Strength and damage

Use against enemies with a lot of health but not much defense or fortitude.

Finesse

Critical hit rate

Try it against enemies with high defense or equip it to units who attack from a distance.

Focus

High accuracy

Use it against opponents with high dexterity and speed since they'll avoid otherwise.

Balance

A balance of the previous three

A generally solid pick if none of the others work for the current situation.

While every character can use every weapon type, you should have them each focus on a different one. See which matches their stats the best, so you can emphasize their strengths and help them succeed. On the other hand, you can upgrade the weapon types to cover their weaknesses if you want a jack-of-all-trades army. Either way, keep upgrading one weapon type per character to let them cover those areas while you fight.

Even if you focus on a weapon type, you should use the other options if the situation calls for it. For example, if you focus on power with a character but only have a 25 percent chance to hit, you may want to use your focus weapon since guaranteed damage matters more than higher damage and having it miss.

Use Your Tanks To Draw Out Enemies

If you sit just outside the enemy's range, they may not approach you, so you'll have to move in if you want to progress the battle. Instead of throwing all your characters into range or advancing, you should put one character at the edge of the enemy's attack range. Doing so will draw the enemies out while minimizing the damage taken by the tank.

Some characters will excel at defense while others will have high fortitude. Defense protects against physical attacks while fortitude protects you from magic attacks. Double-check the enemies before you put the bait into range so you don't pick the wrong one. For example, Irving has decent defense, but he'll get destroyed by anyone with magic. On the other hand, Elias works as a better tank overall since he has the same aptitude as Irving for defense, but he also has a high fortitude stat.

You should also consider rotating your characters when it comes to tanking. If a character gets low on health, heal them or pick another to draw out your enemies. You can keep your army alive as you rotate your units and have your healer constantly restore HP.

Don't Worry If Units Fall In Battle

Some SRPGs have a system where you face permanent death if your character goes down. However, Dark Deity makes itself different by taking a unique approach. Instead of killing your character or bringing them back after the fight, your character lowers their stats. That means you won't lose the unit forever, but if the unit keeps dying, it may become useless compared to your other options.

That means if you need to sacrifice a unit in a battle occasionally, you may want to do so to avoid resetting the fight. Usually, you'll have more units available than you need to finish the battle, so you may need to send in a glass-cannon unit to take someone out but then take the fall. While it might not be ideal, it may be the best option for your situation, so don't fear sacrificing your units during a battle.

You might instinctively approach the game with the mindset that everyone must make it to the end of the fight, but you don't have to worry about that here. Just focus on winning and don't worry about playing aggressively at times, even if you lose a stat or two.

Generally speaking, if your character gains a level-up from the fight, you'll gain more than you lose, so you can view it as a net positive.

If you want to make the most of your party, avoid using the same character as the scapegoat each time since their stats may fall behind. Rotate your characters if you must, or play more defensively if you lose too many of them.

Prioritize One Enemy Instead Of Spreading Your Damage

Even though some characters may deal more damage to certain enemies, you'll want to prioritize a single enemy instead of spreading your attacks. Since all your units go before the enemy attacks, you'll lower their strength and take less damage if you take out more opponents. Because of that, you'll want to use your stronger units to initially hit opponents and finish them off with one of your characters who do less damage.

Not only will you help those characters level up, but you won't waste a powerful attack on the enemy. Generally speaking, you'll want to attack the enemies who have the highest attack stats and the lowest defensive stats. You should also consider their defense and fortitude to decide whether to use physical or magic damage to take them out.

Since some high-priority targets have range and may hide behind other units, you'll want to bring mages and archers to help you attack them. You may also want them to focus on critical builds to remove those enemies while maximizing their damage.

Check the battle results before you commit to an attack. Doing so will show how much damage you'll apply before you hit them. That way, you can see if an attack will finish them off or if you'll deal too much damage, making it not worth the hit.

You can also check the hit chances to avoid wasting an attack while considering your different weapon options.
