Days Gone Remastered ignited the cult-hit narrative survival game with fresh life, introducing a multitude of new features to coexist with the game that everyone remembers. Alongside that, there are quite a few entirely different things to try as you go along for the ride, with entirely new modes to tackle.

The Best Weapons In Days Gone

Days Gone is another game that drops players into an expansive world filled with enemies. It's good to know which weapons to use in any situation.

Some of the remaster's features are more noticeable than others. Graphically, the game has been brought in line to be consistent with other modern releases, which will be especially attractive to brand-new players. However, the new modes add replayability, even for players already familiar with the game, giving even more gameplay options.

7 Graphical Improvements

As is the default expectation for a remaster, the graphics have been improved. There wasn't too much distance to cover to make a game like Days Gone hold up to modern standards, but that doesn't take away from the game looking truly beautiful, in an undead-apocalypse kind of way.

There are two graphics options in both Performance and Quality on consoles; Performance targets 60 frames-per-second (FPS) at 1440p, while Quality targets 30 FPS at 4K. This is entirely down to preference. The Performance mode seems to run consistently at 60 FPS on the PS5, while the Quality mode has a noticeable uptick in resolution, particularly on nicer monitors/televisions.

6 Horde Assault Game Mode

There are a few new game modes in Days Gone Remastered, but none of them are as brand-new as the Horde Assault mode. This new mode is extremely challenging and acts similarly to a roguelite experience, resetting your run when it's over and allowing you to customize certain parameters of your experience with different modifiers as you unlock them.

This mode is a good time, but isn't recommended for players who aren't familiar with Days Gone and haven't played the campaign. Certain playable character descriptions give information you might not want, and the difficulty is high enough that if you aren't familiar with the mechanics, you're going to have an even more difficult experience than a veteran of the game.

5 Permadeath Game Mode

The Permadeath mode is one of the most interesting additions, allowing you toplay through the entire campaign of Days Gone with a single life (with possible caveats). Days Gone is a very balanced blend of narrative experience and survival game, and the Permadeath option fits into the mixture extremely well, making it a very tense experience.

Taking the Permadeath mode slow is going to be pivotal to success; making a simple mistake and then stumbling into a horde is one of the easiest ways to die in Days Gone.

Permadeath can be played in any difficulty setting, and it can be played where dying either deletes your entire save file or resets you to the beginning of the current act that you're on. The latter is slightly less punishing, but Days Gone is an extremely long game, so either way, dying is going to be brutally punishing.

4 Speedrun Game Mode

The new Speedrun mode is a little bit the opposite of Permadeath, where the idea is to complete the game as quickly as you possibly can. This will also be a mode in which you play through the entire campaign, but there is going to be a timer displayed on your screen the entire time, keeping you very much on the clock.

This timer is going to pause during cutscenes, allowing you to watch them without fear of adding a ton of time to your record. It will save a different time for each difficulty level, and you can compare your time on the leaderboards with others, once your run is complete.

3 Accessibility Settings

There are a plethora ofaccessibility settings in this version of Days Gone, many of them serving different purposes, but all of them allowing for people who would benefit from specific types of assistance to enjoy the game in its entirety.

15 Post-Apocalyptic Open-World Games To Play If You Like Days Gone

If you like the idea of trying to survive during the end of the world, then these games will be right up your alley.

These accessibility settings range from a high-contrast mode, auto-completing quick-time-events (QTEs), menu narration, collectible audio cues, field-of-view options, and a game speed setting, which will slow everything in the game down to either 25, 50, or 75 percent.

2 DualSense Controller Options

Specifically on the PS5, there are multiple options for the console's exclusive controller. The PS5 controller has options like the Adaptive Triggers, which provide resistance when doing certain things in-game, as well as Haptic Feedback, which is basically fancy vibration.

For Days Gone Remastered, the Adaptive Triggers can be toggled on or off or set to different strengths for things like driving your motorcycle and firing weapons. The Haptic Feedback registers in many situations, including providing weather effects that you can feel, as well as weapon feedback.

1 Enhanced Photo Mode Options

Photo Mode has been made quite a bit more robust, with a lot of different settings to hopefully allow you to get your photo looking exactly how you'd like it to look. (Photo Mode will also, incidentally, be improved simply due to the better graphics.)

These new options include allowing you to set your time of day while taking the photo, lighting option improvements, and some new UI additions. The Photo Mode can be difficult to tweak in minute ways because the camera view drifts to a stop when you move it, and could take a bit of getting used to.
