Summary

  • Twitch streamer Ecdycis discovered that you can save Paul in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster by spitting on his crotch rather than using a fire extinguisher.
  • Spitting is typically useless, but this presents a surprisingly handy speedrun strategy.
  • Just make sure you don't drink the Spitfire mixed drink first or you might end up taking Paul out with a heavy phleghm-shot.

There's a Psychopath in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster called Paul Carson who lights his own crotch on fire after running around in circles, tossing molotovs and pipe bombs at you.

Even though he tried to burn you alive for fun, you can save him with a fire extinguisher to get some neat rewards back in the Security Room. But what if you 'spit on that thang' like Hawk Tuah instead?

On behalf of everyone at TheGamer, I would like to apologise for any Hawk Tuah references, images, or headlines.

That's exactly what Twitch streamer and speedrunner Ecdycis tried, while wearing a novelty mask no less. With every rapid-fire shot of spit hurled directly at Paul's crotch, while he does what can only be described as flailing panic-induced crunches, the fire quickly goes down. It works! You don't need the extinguisher, just some saliva straight from the horse's mouth. Get it... because, nevermind.

How To Spit On That Thang In Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Spitting is incredibly easy in Dead Rising. Just unequip your weapons, aim, and attack. It's harmless, though. The most you'll get out of spitting on a zombie is some weird looks from the other undead, but thanks to the Deluxe Remaster, it finally has a purpose.

As one commenter points out, being able to sidestep the fire extinguisher entirely will be incredibly useful in an All Bosses speedrun. Right now, the number one time is 1h 28m 07s, but with some spitting, you could easily shave a few seconds off.

Outside of speedrunning, there is a way to make spitting useful for the average player. The Spitfire mixed juice — crafted with ice pops, snacks, and cooking oil — lets you kill zombies with a phleghm headshot. It lasts around three minutes and is halfway decent for taking on Psychopaths. In the chance that you run out of weapons, you can just spit in their face until they keel over (someone even beat every boss in the original game doing this). Just make sure you haven't drank the Spitfire before hoicking at Paul's crotch or it might start to burn.
