This year's event hasn't seen many changes from last year's FOTL, but the rewards have been made sweeter than ever. You can now chase Exotic Class Items just by playing Haunted Lost Sectors, and a new Shotgun archetype is up for grabs if you're willing to grind for a perfect roll. But before we talk about rewards, let's first explain how Festival of the Lost works and how to participate.

What Is Festival Of The Lost?

Festival of the Lost is Destiny 2's annual Halloween-themed event that runs from October 29 to November 19. Eva Levante returns to the Tower to help spread holiday cheer with spooky decorations, festive masks, and a small handful of thematic weapons. Don your favorite mask, dive into some Haunted Lost Sectors, and plunder the candy within to claim some unique event rewards.

In terms of rewards, Festival of the Lost is a great source of A-tier weapons and Exotic Class Items. This year's event has a powerful two-burst Shotgun up for grabs, and the Exotic Class Item that was previously exclusive to Final Shape content can now be earned during Festival of the Lost, provided you own The Final Shape expanison. You don't even need to play Dual Destiny first to get one, making this a great way to gear up your alternate characters.

Haunted Lost Sectors And Lost Pages

Haunted Lost Sectors return this year with minimal changes. When you first visit the Tower, speak with Eva Levante to get introduced to the festival. She'll give you a mask and ask you to equip it before delving into a Haunted Lost Sector. Put on the mask and launch the activity from the Tower map.

You must have a FOTL mask equipped to earn Candy from slain enemies, this event's main currency.

Clearing A Haunted Sector

Similar to last year, there are two Haunted Lost Sectors variants you can queue into:

  1. Haunted Lost Sector Playlist: Easy difficulty with matchmaking. Ideal for casual play.
  2. Expert Haunted Sector: Expert difficulty (2,010 Power) with buildcraft modifiers and Champions. Does not feature matchmaking.

Regardless of the playlist you select, the core of the activity remains the same. Your goal is to capture zones in the Lost Sector to spawn Ascendant Knights. Killing them will drop Candy and build up an objective counter. Once you've slain ten of them, a boss will spawn.

The boss fight itself is a standard two-phase ordeal. Damage the boss until it becomes immune, capture more zones to spawn Ascendant Knights, then kill the Knights to spawn explosive pumpkins. Throw them at the boss to drop its immunity shield, then finish the fight. A chest with your spoils will spawn shortly thereafter, dropping a bundle of Candy and random Festival of the Lost weapons.

Lost Pages

As you complete activities during Festival of the Lost, you'll earn Manifested Pages which can be used to decrypt lore entries in the Book of the Forgotten. After you get your hands on a few Manifested pages, return to the Tower and interact with the Book of the Forgotten beside Eva Levante. Spend your pages to uncover each lore entry.

You'll need 115 Manifested Pages to finish the book.

This is only required if you're chasing the Ghost Writer title. For weapon and armor rewards, you can simply ignore this mechanic.

Candy And Eerie Engram Focusing

Festival of the Lost has two main currencies: Candy and Eerie Engrams. You'll earn Candy by defeating enemies with a Festival of the Lost mask equipped, which can then be used to purchase gift bags from Eva Levante or infused into Eerie Engrams for item focusing.

Eerie Engrams are awarded from Haunted Lost Sectors and can be focused to drop specific pieces of event gear. Open the focusing tab in Eva's inventory to check your focusing options. You can turn your Engrams into specific weapons, Exotic armor, or even random rolls of the Exotic Class Item.

The Best Candy Farm

You have a few ways of earning Candy this year. The most efficient Candy farm is Altars of Sorrow on the Moon. Hundreds of enemies spawn during this activity, and a full Altars clear awards 240 Candy. Since you can comfortably farm the last two waves with a small group, this is a great farm.

Another great source of Candy this year is Heroic Public Events. One clear gives about 185 Candy, and most Public Events only take a couple of minutes to complete. Keep an eye on your Director for when they're active.

If you don't like Altars of Sorrow or juggling Public Events, you might want to give Overthrow a try. It only gives 240 Candy on a T3 boss kill, but you'll also be earning Ergo Sum rolls and the occasional Exotic Class Item. It's not the most efficient for farming Candy, but it's a versatile farm that requires little effort from you or your fireteam.

Old classics like Horror Story and Mechabre also make a return, complete with new perk pools. We'll have a god roll guide for these weapons up later today; stay tuned.

Outside of weapons, Eerie Engrams can be focused into high-stat Exotic armor and random rolls of the Exotic Class Item. If you need to fill out your Exotic collection or want to chase some high-stat rolls, Festival of the Lost is absolutely worth playing this year.
