Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Best Skills For A Veil Ranger Rogue
While Veil Ranger Rogue conjures images of, well, conjuring, it's basically the archer Specialization in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Though Saboteur also uses the bow a lot, Veil Rangers make even better use of the bow and are deadly hunters who can slay hordes before they're even spotted - but they don't tend to fare too well when things get up close and personal, so they need some exit strategies for a hasty retreat, which is where these Skills come into it.

Posts By Stacey HenleyVeil Rangers benefit from a lot of the early bow Skills you can unlock, and you might want to check out our early Skills for each Rogue Specialization guide to start building a Veil Ranger effectively from the start. Here, we'll be looking at the best Skills once you've unlocked the Specialization at level 20, as well as the best Skills from Burst and Control you can use. Since Sustain is more focused on hand to hand combat and is on the opposite side of the Skill Tree, Veil Rangers can ignore it.
Damage values are tied to Skills chosen. These were our numbers once we unlocked Rogue Specializations, and they grew over time.
Best Veil Ranger Skills
Skills
Benefit
Twin Gifts of Arlathan
3,474 Electricity damage, new Ultimate
Storm's Path
769 Electricity damage (Area, Projectile)
Amperage
+10% Electricity damage
Sniper's Triumph
Fire multiple arrows at once after Charged Weakpoint headshot
Hamstring
Knock Down enemies with Charged Shots to legs
Veil Ranger Rogues are inspired by the elven hunters of Arlathan Forest, most obviously Bellara. It's the most bow-heavy class since it's designed for people on the edge of the battlefield who can slip away from danger at a moment's notice, while inflicting huge damage on unsuspecting foes. Therefore, its Skills are either about making a quick getaway or peppering enemies with damage from distance.
Twin Gifts of Arlathan is the powerful Ultimate you'll want as a Veil Rangers, while Storm's Path is an excellent Ability that lets you attack from afar and benefits from the Electricity buffs Veil Rangers use, such as Amperage. Sniper's Triumph and Hamstring meanwhile both reward Veil Rangers for their patient style of play that suits taking a deep breath and letting your arrow sail strong and true.
Best Control Skills For A Veil Ranger Rogue
Skills
Benefit
Killer Instinct
20% extra Stagger from Abilities
Precise Power
Enhanced damage after hitting a Weakpoint
Reeling Bolt
147 Electricity damage (Projectile, Tool)
Keen Eye
2 Momentum from arrow hits, 4 Momentum from Weakpoint arrow hits
Determination
+50 Max Momentum
Veil Rangers use Momentum far more than Duelists and Saboteurs, the latter of which it shares the Control Skill Tree with. That means any Skills that offer Momentum boosts are worthwhile for a Veil Ranger. Their style also relies on a companion to get their hands dirty, as someone needs to keep the fight away from you if you want to be effective.
Keen Eye and Determination obviously suit a build that relies on Momentum, while the former also makes use of the deadly precision of a Veil Ranger - just like Precise Power. Reeling Bolt meanwhile is a great Ability to use from distance, which is what you need (and as per our early Skills guide, Rain of Decay is also an excellent string to have on your bow). Finally, Killer Instinct sets up Stagger for whichever more aggressive companions you have with you to take advantage of.
Best Burst Skills For A Veil Ranger Rogue
Skills
Benefit
Momentous Occasion
Final attacks grant 25% more Momentum, or 50% with Adrenaline
Knock Out
Charged attacks, including with bows, deal Critical damage against enemies at Low Health
Sharper Edge
+15% Penetration
Explosive Daggers
966 Physical damage (Projectile, Duration)
Triple Threat
25% damage boost to Abilties when all Abilities are of a different type
Veil Rangers share the Burst tree with Duelists, but play so differently that both Specializations will take an opposite approach. Everything the Veil Ranger does is about distance, which is why Burst Skills here are built around a ranged approach.
Since Veil Ranger is the Momentum Specialization, Momentous Occasion makes a lot of sense. Knock Out being a rare buff that applies to both bow and blade means Veil Rangers can use it effectively from distance, while Sharper Edge helps in a similar way. Then you have Explosive Daggers, because some Projectile Abilties that aren't Electricity based will be crucial when facing enemies that resist a Veil Ranger's primary form of attack. This is where Triple Threat comes in: a build of Explosive Daggers, Rain of Decay, and Reeling Bolt (switched out for Storm's Path) rewards a well rounded Veil Ranger.
