Dragon Age: Origins Sees 76 Percent Spike In Players Following The Veilguard's Release
Summary
- Dragon Age: Origins has seen a 76 percent spike in players since The Veilguard launched.
- We saw a similar story unfold when Inquisition launched in 2014, which actually caused Origin's all-time peak player count.
- Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition however fared better in the build-up to The Veilguard's release.
In the wake of Dragon Age: The Veilguard's launch, Origins has seen a 76 percent spike in players on Steam, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 2,642.
It's an impressive milestone, surpassing even its 2010 launch which saw it reach 2,278 players.
That number appears to be dipping again, but the player count has spiked every weekend since The Veilguard launched (via SteamDB), so it'll be interesting to see how things look this time next month. Regardless, there are more numbers to crunch, so let's look at the rest of the series.
Dragon Age 2 actually fared better in the run-up to The Veilguard's launch. Throughout June to August, it regularly reached over 1,000 players (marking its all-time concurrent peak player count with 1,421), but it has since dropped down to 698 players in the last 30 days.

Companions like Wyll work because they're surrounded by selfish and more spiteful people, but The Veilguard never seems to grasp that.
Posts 21 By James LucasInquisition also did better in the build-up to launch, hitting an all-time peak of 4,964 players back in June. It quieted down in the months since, dropping to 3,107 players by September, but it has seen a small rise of 200 players since The Veilguard's release.
Dragon Age: Origins Hit Its Peak Player Count When Inquisition Launched
What's interesting about this spike of players is that Dragon Age: Origins saw a similar boost when Inquisition launched in 2014.
If you're waiting for a remastered trilogy a la Mass Effect, creative director John Epler said that it would be much more challenging.
In the months preceding BioWare's hotly-anticipated RPG, interest boomed. So much so that Origins hit its all-time peak player count of 8,363 players in May 2014, a number that still has yet to be beaten.
The series isn't currently discounted on Steam, but when the Winter sales hit, make sure to try out these modern classics if you haven't already.
