Summary

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busch has revealed there are currently no plans at BioWare right now for DLC.
  • That might sound disappointing, but Busch claims the decision was made so BioWare could focus on making The Veilguard the "most complete out-of-the-box package it could.
  • In fact, Busch reveals that this decision was partly driven by criticism surrounding Inquisition's Trespasser DLC, an expansion that is considered crucial to the story of the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard might still be months away from release, but that hasn't stopped some people from asking whether DLC is planned. It's pretty much expected these days for big publishers to announce DLC expansions for their biggest games before they've even released - just look at Ubisoft unveiling a full roadmap for Str Wars Outlaws before the thing even hit store shelves.

With that in mind, it makes sense that Dragon Age: The Veilguard director Corinne Busch was asked whether any DLC was in the works by YouTuber MrMattyPlays in a recent interview (thanks Games Radar), though your hopes would be dashed if you had your fingers crossed for even more Dragon Age next year.

Busch reveals that BioWare isn't thinking about potential DLC at the moment, and there are no current plans, as the team is focused solely on making Dragon Age: The Veilguard. If that's upsetting to you, Busch actually has a pretty good reason as to why DLC isn't on BioWare's list of priorities right now.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Isn't Getting DLC Because Of Inquisition

Busch explains that while she's a fan of the DLC offerings for previous Dragon Age games, she thinks that DLC such as Inquisition's Trespasser expansion are better off included in the full package, claiming that Trespasser probably shouldn't have been DLC due to how vital it is to the game's story. Learning from that, Busch says that the team wanted to make The Veilguard the most complete package they could.

"We've had a lot of conversations about how expansive is this story, how far does it go, what is the conclusion and resolution? Really, we wanted to make it the most complete out-of-the-box package we possibly could, from player experience, to the narrative, and everything else, so that's entirely our focus right now."

Fortunately, Busch does leave the door slightly open for DLC in the future, claiming that it's "hard to say what the future holds" and to "never say never", but DLC is currently off the table as BioWare focuses on making The Veilguard the best it can be.
