Summary

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero features multiple references to Sonic the Hedgehog in its pre-match intro dialogue, with a specific focus put on referencing Sonic Adventure.
Ever since Sonic the Hedgehog first graced our screens all the way back in 1991, there's been one big point of comparison - Dragon Ball Z. That might seem weird at first, but when you consider things like Super Sonic, the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow the Hedgehog, and a whole lot more, it becomes clear that the creators must have had a soft spot for Goku's adventures.

Xenoverse is all about alternate scenarios, but Sparking Zero’s what-if battles are all far more interesting and surprising.
Posts By George FosterAlthough the creators of Sonic have tried (and failed) to put a little bit of distance between its series and Dragon Ball lately, it seems that feeling isn't reciprocated. Over the past few days, Dragon Ball fans have discovered that Sparking Zero has a number of surprising references to Sonic the Hedgehog, specifically to Sonic Adventure 2 of all things.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Has Lots Of References To Sonic The Hedgehog
As showcased by YouTuber ShonenGamesZ, Sparking Zero has a surprising number of nods to Sonic the Hedgehog. One of the first can be found in the encyclopedia when viewing Turles' profile. If you use the Girl Talk feature, Chi-Chi will point out how Turles looks like a dark version of Goku, which leads Videl to say not to accidentally hug him, a reference to what Amy does when she meets Shadow.
By far the best reference, though, can be found if you pit Goten against himself#' in a versus battle. Goten will passionately say, "I found you faker!", which is a nod to the iconic line spoken by Sonic when he runs into Shadow for the second time in Sonic Adventure 2. What is it with Goten and Trunks always being so in line with pop culture?
Another refernece that might not be purposeful but is still funny is when Majin Vegeta goes into Sparking Mode and says "This is who I am!", which is very similar to a line spoken by Shadow.
Speaking of Goten and Trunks, Gotenks also pays tribute to the same scene from Sonic Adventure. If you win as him in a versus battle, he'll say, "I'm gonna make you eat those words" while also calling himself a faker. It's a nod to the same scene as mentioned above, but it is very clearly a loving reference to Sonic Adventure 2.
