These cards all come from Turning Red, which is making its Disney Lorcana debut in this upcoming set. We already got a good look at Ming Lee, Popular Red Panda, and Meilin Lee, Lead Vocalist, during the Lorecast, but we are bringing you five additional character cards, as well as one action card, and one song.

New Shift Mechanic Debuts Alongside Turning Red Glimmers

Turning Red isn’t just bringing some new glimmers along for its big debut; it’s also bringing with it a brand-new mechanic known as the Temporary Shift. This allows characters from the Turning Red film to shift in and out of their panda forms, rather than the shift being permanent.

This mechanic allows you to place a card with the Temporary Shift ability over a card that is named in the ability. In the case of Ming Lee, Giant Red Panda, you can pay seven ink rather than the full cost of nine to use the Temporary Shift and place it over a card named Ming Lee.

Then, at the end of your turn, you remove all damage from the card and return Ming Lee, Giant Red Panda, to your hand, and you can either play it again for its Temporary Shift cost, or fully cast it for its typical ink value.

With the new mechanic taken care of, I’ll now take you through each card in a little more detail, so if you happen to come across one of them in an Attack of the Vine booster pack, you’ll know exactly what it does.

Ming Lee, Giant Red Panda

I’ve already covered the new Temporary Shift mechanic on Ming Lee, Giant Red Panda, but here’s everything else you need to know. She costs nine ink to cast normally, but enters play as a humongous 10/10 character, and whenever it challenges another character, you may ready her. If you do, she can’t quest for the rest of the turn.

While the nine-ink cost may seem high, bouncing Ming Lee, Giant Red Panda, on and off the battlefield using Temporary Shift is a great way to keep your opponents on their toes while still having a big impact on the flow of the game. She only quests for two lore points, but Ming Lee is a challenger at heart, so you’ll want to use her to remove the big questing or challenging threats on your opponent's board.

Ming Lee, Overprotective Parent

Ming Lee, Overprotective Parent, is one of the cards you can use in tandem with Giant Red Panda using the Temporary Shift mechanic. This card costs four ink to cast, and cannot be used as ink in your inkwell.

She is a 3/3 character glimmer with the You’re Grounded ability, which states that when you shift a character on top of her, you may choose one of your opponents' exerted characters, and it then won’t ready for their next turn.

It’s a way to prevent your opponent’s most important cards from being in play during the next turn, and again, if you combine it with the Temporary Shift mechanic multiple times, you can be a real nuisance to your opponent. She may also quest for two lore points.

Ming Lee, Proud Parent

A second Ming Lee glimmer is arriving in the form of Ming Lee, Proud Parent, a 2/3 character who costs three ink and has two abilities. The first is Biggest Fan, which says that if you have a character named Meilin Lee in play, it costs one less ink to play Ming Lee, Proud Parent.

The second ability is Follow The Music, which states that if you played a song this turn, you can pay one less ink to play this character. So, if you have a Meilin Lee card in play and have played a song in the same turn, you can play Ming Lee, Proud Parent for just one ink. This card can also quest for two lore points.

Melin Lee, Superficially Obedient

The third character card from this batch of reveals is Meilin Lee, Superficially Obedient, a two-ink, 2/3 character who can quest for one lore point. She also has the Newfound Confidence ability, which states that when you shift a character on top of her, she gains Evasive until the start of your next turn.

Evasive means that only other characters with Evasive can challenge her, but it won’t protect her from becoming the target of actions, so don’t think of it as a free pass.

Besties Assemble

Besties Assemble is an action card that costs one ink or can be used as ink in your inkwell. When cast, this action allows you to look at the top four cards of your deck, you may reveal a character card and put it in your hand, and the rest go straight to the bottom of your deck in any order.

Given the wording on this card, you only need to reveal a character and put it in your hand if you actually want it. Should you see a character that is of no use to you, you may pass on it and place all four cards on the bottom of your deck.

I’m Never Not By Your Side

The only song card of this reveal is I’m Never Not By Your Side, which has a casting cost of five ink and can be used as ink if required. It has Sing Together 5, meaning any number of your characters with a total cost five or more may exert to sing the song for free.

As for what the song does, it allows you to remove up to a total of four damage from any number of your characters, and you gain one lore for each point of damage removed using this song.

4*Town, Hottest Band Of The Year

The fourth and final character card from this reveal is 4*Town, Hottest Band of the Year, a four-ink, 5/5 card that has Singer 5, meaning it counts as cost 5 to sing songs. It also has the Star Performance ability, meaning whenever this character sings a song, you draw a card.

This character can’t be used for ink and can also quest for one lore point, but as it’s carrying the Singer 5 ability, it’s best to reserve it for when you need to sing a song, like I’m Never Not By Your Side.
