It May Be Hard To Believe But Ecco The Dolphin Is Over 30 Years Old
Tucked away in an Xbox Wire post dedicated to celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a spotlight interview with the game's creator, Ed Annunziata.
After discussing his career and heritage, Annunziata revealed that the franchise is making a comeback. When asked about what the future holds for Ecco, Annunziata had this to say:
Me and the entire original team are going to Remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time games. Then we will make a new, third game with contemporary play and GPU sensibilities.

If you navigate to the website, you'll be greeted by a blue screen with a timer counting down from 8,529 (as of this writing) hours. In case you're wondering, 8,529 hours from now is April 25, 2026. It doesn't look like the April date has too much significance, as both games didn't come out during that window.
Back in January, Sega filed a new trademark related to the Sega Genesis franchise. That filing marked the first movement in the series in over 20 years. At the time, it was unclear whether the filings were to keep the trademarks in house or as part of something larger.
Flash forward to today, and it seems like that's what the plan was all along, though we'll need some further confirmation. That said, Ecco the Dolphin's comeback is clearly the most important remaster news of the day, right?
